Man In Critical Condition After Bicycle Accident on Oregon Highway 22E

The man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

(STAYTON, Ore. ) - A 55-year old man is in critical condition Saturday night after falling from his bicycle while riding on the shoulder of Highway 22E just east of Stayton.

At approximately 3:19 p.m., the man was riding a bicycle on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 22E near milepost 16. The man reportedly ran over a piece of 2x4 wood lying on the pavement, lost control and fell off the bicycle landing on his face. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious injury.

Oregon State Police, Marion County Sheriff's Office and Stayton Fire District responded to the scene. The man was initially transported by ground ambulance to Santiam Hospital in Stayton. He was then taken by air ambulance to a Portland-area hospital.
