(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Oregon Department of Transportation wants you to Be Aware! of a work project tonight on Interstate 5 south of Salem.

Southbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane for a short distance one mile north of Albany (MP 236), as contractors remove and replace approximately 20 cubic yards of contaminated soil. The soil was contaminated with diesel after a semi crashed in the left lane and median during a snowstorm this winter.

Work is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. and continue until 5:30 a.m. Friday morning, Motorists will be directed to merge to the right hand lane. The lane restriction should result in no significant delays, ODOT said.

Remember to slow down when you see orange signs, barrels and barricades. Speeding is the second most common cause of work zone crashes.
