May-26-2007 10:24TweetFollow @OregonNews Racial Attack in Molalla Leaves One Man in Jail and Police Looking for OthersSalem-News.comThe attack appears to have been motivated by racist behavior and alcohol.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) - An 18-year-old Oregon City man is in Clackamas County Jail after allegedly assaulting a Hispanic male with a rock in an apparent act of racism. Police are looking for other suspects in the attack. A Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy responded to the 28000 block of S. Hwy. 213 in Molalla over a disturbance at the Wagon Wheel Park, Thursday at approximately 10:46 PM. They say Molalla Police officers were already on scene, trying to restore order. Two Hispanic males -- 27-year old Edwin Alfonzo Gonzales, and 26-year old Alex Bivian Guzman, described being confronted by a group of 20-30 white males at the park. Gonzales says that the instigator of this confrontation, identified as 18-year old Austin Wright Greenwood of Oregon City, then hit him on the back with a rock. Gonzales reports that the group of white teenagers described by the victim as a "mob", then began yelling racial slurs and throwing rocks at Gonzales and Guzman and their vehicle. Gonzales reports getting back in his car and attempting to flee the scene as the crowd continued to throw rocks at him and Guzman and the vehicle, smashing out the windows and causing over $1,000 in damage. After questioning Austin Wright Greenwood, a Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy placed him under arrest. The deputy on-scene reports that Greenwood said, "The only thing I did was wrestle with some fat Mexican!" The deputy also reports that Greenwood spat on the CCSO patrol-car window; urinated on the rear seat where he sat while in custody; and repeatedly hurled profane verbal insults at the deputy en route to Clackamas County Jail, where he is now lodged. Austin Wright Greenwood is currently in Clackamas County Jail on charges of Assault II with bail set at $250,000, Riot, with a $15,000 bail amount, and Criminal Mischief I, $15,000 bail. He was also cited as a Minor in Possession of Alcohol. Police are currently looking to follow up with additional suspects in the case. Any witnesses with information on this alleged attack are urged to call the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office confidential Tip Line at 503-723-4949.
