(SALEM, Ore.) - Law enforcement officials say a female body was found last night on a rural road in east Marion County. They have not yet identified the woman or disclosed the cause of death. Marion County deputies responded to Monitor-Mckee Road NE over the report of an unresponsive person in the roadway shortly after 10:00 PM last night.

They say the location of the body was about half a mile east of State Highway 214 between Woodburn and Mt. Angel in North Marion County.

Commander Jason Myers with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrived shortly after the call and found a deceased female in the roadway. "The cause of death is not yet known but the nature appears to be suspicious."

The Marion County District Attorney's Office is leading the investigation, and future media and public information will be released through the DA's office as it becomes available.

In the meanwhile, anyone with any information about this incident is encouraged to call the Sheriff's Office detectives section at (503) 540-8007.
