(PORTLAND, Ore.) - USDA Food and Nutrition Service has issued a recall for frozen blueberries distributed in Oregon through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP).

The recall is due to a complaint FNS received regarding foreign material in one three-pound bag of frozen blueberries.

FNS does not believe there is any additional foreign material in the lots produced in the two days of production in question, but it is investigating the complaint and has asked the vendor to pick up and replace the remaining quantities of product.

Oregon Food Bank received and distributed a partial truckload of the blueberries in April.

The recalled frozen blueberries are in three-pound, clear, plastic bags with no markings other than a small date stamp. Food-box clients who received the frozen blueberries from a local pantry in April or May should check the date stamp on the bag.

If the date stamp reads "2009 APR 8," recipients should destroy the product or return the bag to the pantry. The recall doesn't affect any other dates.

"Food safety is paramount to Oregon Food Bank," states Janeen Wadsworth, chief operating officer of Oregon Food Bank. "We have notified the OFB Network of 20 regional food banks about this recall. They, in turn, notify their local network of emergency food programs and agencies."
