Bangladesh Government Blocks Website for Publishing 'Anti State' Poem

Examining the past record of Bangladesh, we find a history of media censorship.

(SALEM) - The Bangladesh government has blocked the website of journalist and human rights activist William Gomes, for having published the poem, “Anti state”.

In the poem, this human rights activist made plain his grievance against the corruption and injustice that is going on in Bangladesh. William Gomes is the assistant editor of Salem news.com.

In the poem he said: “I will burn their RED and GREEN flag,

I will burn the constitution of injustice

I will burn down the parliament

I will burn down all into ashes

I dream no red and green flag

No traders of injustice

But a place full of peaceful of people!

No mater, if need to change the name of Bangladesh

I declare, I will change it!”

Examining the past record of Bangladesh, we find a history of media censorship. This includes the blocking of video-sharing Website YouTube after a recording of a meeting between the Prime Minister and army officers was posted.

Previously, Bangladesh blocked the social networking Website Facebook over caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed and "obnoxious" images of the Muslim-majority country's leaders.

The blocking of the Website of William Gomes, www.williamgomes.org by the Bangladesh government is a serious violations of freedom of expression. Salem-News is taking this issue to different US government authorities, and will communicate this issue of censorship to the highest officials within the White House.
