(TELLURIDE) - Greg Mortenson, the controversial author of “Three Cups of Tea” was once scheduled to appear at the 2011 Mountainfilm but now is missing from the roster of announced speakers. Filmmaker Tom Shadyac and activist Tim Dechristopher are two of the better known confirmed speakers among at least a dozen high profile experts discussing the twin topics of “Awareness into Action” and “Image into Action.” The four-day festival begins May 27. Started in 1979, Mountainfilm is one of America’s longest-running film festivals. Through the years, in and out of trends and fads, the festival has always been best described by one unchanging word: inspiring. Far more than any other adjective, that’s how festival audiences describe their experience. The Mountainfilm festival is a four-day, six-senses experience of the arts, adventure, culture and the environment. It attracts filmmakers, photographers, conservationists, mountaineers and explorers from around the world. The audiences also come from around the globe to gather in theaters that range from historical to state of the art in the box-canyon of Telluride, Colorado, and the gondola linked Mountain Village. In recent years, the festival have screened such notable feature documentaries as The Cove, Gasland, Sergio, Taxi to the Dark Side, Genghis Blues, Who Killed the Electric Car? and others, but the festival also find short gems and rarer films that their audiences otherwise might never have the opportunity to view. The festival focus on making each screening into a special event: for example, a live concert with Prudence Mabhena after a screening of the Oscar award-winning film Music By Prudence. The festival also brings to Telluride the filmmakers and featured film subjects for nearly every film. For pass and lodging packages contact Telluride Alpine Lodging 800-376-9769
