Woodburn High School: Scene of Three Alarm Fire, all Students Evacuated

Parents should rest assured that by all accounts the students and employees are safe.

Salem-News.com

(WOODBURN, OR) - A very serious fire broke out at Oregon's Woodburn High School this morning, on the north side of the school's campus. From all reports there were no injuries. Students have been evacuated from the premises and we are told it was an orderly event and that students and staff acted in a safe manner.

It is too soon to know what started the fire, or all of the circumstances. A student told a Portland news reporter that the fire began in the school's welding shop, however others attributed the source of the fire to chemicals.

Parents of Woodburn High students should rest assured that in spite of the obvious danger, by all accounts the students and employees are safe.

A large number of fire engines arrived on scene to back Woodburn firefighters and to staff their vacated quarters in case they are needed for another fire response.

We will learn more about this and bring more information to you later today. Salem-News News Photographer Jerry Freeman was on scene and we will have video from that later today.

ODOT/Valley, No. Coast: OR 214 is closed in Woodburn for safety reasons as firefighters work on a fire at Woodburn High School. Traffic is being detoured using OR 99E and Settlemier Street. Motorists should avoid the area, use alternative routes or expect delays.
