May-10-2011 14:45TweetFollow @OregonNews Rally Demanding Justice for Genocide Victims of Thamil EelamSalem-News.comDespite the voice of the Tamils being silenced in Sri Lanka under threat and brutality, the Tamil Diaspora will carry forward the struggle for justice in the international arena.
(WASINGTON, D.C.) - On May 18, 2011, the Tamil Diaspora of North America will be rallying at the United Nations in New York City to demand an independent, international investigation of the Genocide carried out against the Tamil people by the Sri Lankan government and its military. May 18th, 2009, marked the end of the Sri Lankan ethnic civil war between the Tamils and the Sinhalese. In the name of fighting terror, the government of Sri Lanka indiscriminately bombarded the Tamil homeland of Eelam, using large-scale and widespread shelling including the employment of banned chemical weapons, killing more than 40,000 people in a matter of just three days! During and after the final stages of the war, hundreds of thousands of Tamil civilians and combatant survivors were subjected to extreme forms of torture, gang rapes, and extrajudicial killings. While these atrocities were going on, the Sri Lankan government barred NGOs, rights groups, and the international media from entering these areas. The recently-released Report of the UN Secretary General’s Panel of Experts accounts the crimes committed against the humanity and genocide carried out in Sri Lanka. The Report states that "this is a grave assault on the entire regime of international law designed to protect individual dignity during both war and peace." In addition, the Report faults the UN for its failure to prevent the massacre that took place back in 2009. The Report of the UN Panel of Experts further states: “Accountability for serious violations of international humanitarian or human rights law is not a matter of choice or policy; it is a duty under domestic and international law. These credibly alleged violations [in Sri Lanka] demand a serious [international] investigation and the prosecution of those responsible”. Accordingly, we demand that the United Nations constitute an independent judiciary to investigate and punish those responsible for the crimes. Despite the voice of the Tamils being silenced in Sri Lanka under threat and brutality, the Tamil Diaspora will carry forward the struggle for justice in the international arena. Brothers and sisters, you are welcome to join us. Those who cannot participate can make a donation at http://www.sangamevents.org/ for the “Justice for Genocide Victims of Thamil Eelam Fund”. Donations will be used to cover the expenses and enable worldwide broadcasting of the event. Justice for Genocide Victims of Thamil Eelam will take place on May 18, 2011 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at 1st Ave & E 44th Street, New York, NY 10017. A candle light vigil will be held from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the same venue. This event is in collaboration with Tamils from across North America. · Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) · United States Tamil Political Action Council (USTPAC) · Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) · National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT) · Ilankai Tamil Sangam (ITS) · Naam Thamilar - North America · World Thamil Organization (WTO) · Tamils for Obama · Tamils Against Genocide (TAG) Previous Salem-News.com reports on Sri Lanka: May-02-2010: USTPAC Welcomes UN Panel's Report on Sri Lanka - Salem-News.com April-27-2011: Tamil Genocide in Sri Lanka Emerges Into Public View - Tim King Salem-News.com Dec-06-2010: Sri Lanka Shocking Execution Video: New War Crimes Claims - Salem-News.com Aug-07-2010: Grisly Photos Reveal Genocide by Sri Lankan Government Against Tamil People - Muthamizh Vendhan for Salem-News.com Mar-15-2009: Sri Lanka: Possible War Crimes - Salem-News.com May-10-2009: UN Says Urgent International Scrutiny Needed in Sri Lanka - Salem-News.com _____________________________________

The world cannot believe the duplicity of Sri Lanka, whose majority supposedly Buddhists, killing their minority Tamil civilians, children & women included (based on recent UN report) in this most brutal, most atrocious ways. The world countries and GOD should help the helpless Tamils of Sri Lanka from their racist Govt.

Sri Lanka is a country that tortures and kills its own people. This might be well known to many national diplomats; I hope this vigil will bring these atrocities to light for the people living in the west.

he Sri Lankan army which went to Haiti along with the UN peace keeping force was sent back by UN for its allegations on sexual misconduct in Haiti. It is this Sri Lankan army now controls the Tamils in North and East where there is no international body to look after the miseries faced by the Women in the hands of Sri Lankan army.

Sri Lankan Government "PAYS" bribery to people who write against Tamils. Propaganda war of Sri Lanka is well-known from the "famous" Time Poll where the war criminal Mahinda got to 4th place just because of illegitimate voting! Time Poll is a true international scale to measure the SL govt's mindset. If you want to know the military's behaviour ask UN peacekeeping mission, they will tell you about the sexual assault by these "warriors" in Africa and in other third world countries. Sexual assaults are routine in SL army.

Dear Author, In my country, as a Singhalese, I am seeing torture to my Tamil brothers. I witnessed inhumane activities by our gangsters aka military. Please save the remaining Tamils in this island. Or else, the govt will kill them all just because they are Tamils.

Dear Sir, Sri Lanka is trying to hide pumpkin into the soup bowl. It is very clear the Sri Lankan government used campaign against terrorists by the US and wiped out the LTTE organization and killed thousands of Tamil innocent people in name of war against terrorists. By doing so the Sri Lankan government is killing its own people. Even today it is trying to propagate it has released the public from the hands of terrorists. So the war is end. What the government did for war affected people and what is doing with the people who were called inside the safety ring (they are being kept inside the barbed wires until now). Is the government has any plan for sharing power with minority Tamils and creating local governments? International politics helped Sri Lanka as the China and India compete to help it and tried to keep the nation along with them. Till now China and India (through Russia) compete trying to save Sri Lanka from UN action. Peace loving India did not open its mouth about the war crimes done Sri Lanka until. The real problem is if it speaks against it, the Sri Lanka will disclose the Indian involvement in the war. So they are trying to save each other. The racist Sri Lankan leaders leading the country against its own people (even the Sinhalese). They are wrecking the whole system of the country. It will affect the future generations of the country. Only the time will speak about it. It can be better understood by Sri Lankan journalists. On the other hand LTTE was running parallel government. They run their government for more than thirty years. Sri Lankan government could not do anything against them. It could win them only with the help of 22 countries like India and China. Can any Sinhalese citizen say that how many Tamils are in their army? Democratic governments can be for the people and can not be for the majority people and kill the minority. Racism can unleash bloodshed and maniac. It never can give a better government. Perumal Ammavasi Thevan, Mumbai

Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe said that they are holding 4,360 LTTE Members who surrendered remain in rehabilitation camps but refuses to release their names, why? this shows the mentality of the SL Govert. who are treating tamils as second class citizens. we Tamils must fight to the end to save the Tamils from Rajapakshe dictators.

Tim, Thank you for posting as we didn't hear about all this like we did from Egypt, Libya etc. I was following Congressional hearing and found that we American Citizens can make a simple difference: ------- Ask our CONGRESSMAN to co-sponsor H.Res. 177 by Congressmen Michael Grimm (R-NY) and Rush Holt (D-NJ) that calls for an independent investigation, access to the conflict zones and a re-thinking of US policy. A companion resolution, S.Res. 84 was passed by the Senate unanimously on March 1.
Thank you.
David

What bullshit are you talking? These are very wrong ideas you have. We are the people living in Sri Lanka. We know what is happening. I my self have tamil friends. We are living frindly with each and every group of people. You people live in abroad and pretend you know everything. We are Sri Lanka nation, all Sinhalese Tamils Muslims and every other nation living in here. You people go and ask from your own tamil people who lived in war-tone areas whether that type of thing has happened. If sinhalese are like this why did all the tamils came to the Sri Lankan soldiers in the last phase of war abadoning the LTTE terrorists. If these incidents have happened would they continue to come to government area at that time???? The government as well as each and every Sri Lankans take care of each and every Sri Lankan nation. Please dont spread false allegations and please stop publishing fake pictures.
Editor: Don't worry, I'm not. When all the journalists are either killed or kidnapped, be they Tamil or Sinhalese, then these lies of yours are allowed to continue. That is the subject of the next article I am working on.
