(CANBY, Ore.) - A man killed last Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a Union Pacific Railroad train as he walked across the tracks in front the southbound train has been positively identified.

The victim's name is being released but investigators and the medical examiner's office have not been able to identify or locate next of kin.

Preliminary investigation by Oregon State Police and Union Pacific Railroad police indicates that on May 3rd at approximately 12:51 PM, 47-year old Kevin Anthony Briggs was walking southbound along the tracks located west of Highway 99E between New Era Road and South End Road.

Mr. Briggs, who reportedly was wearing headphones, was walking with his back to the southbound train when he turned to his right and attempted to walk across the tracks. The train struck Mr. Briggs killing him instantly. Police say that Kevin Briggs had outstanding warrants issued for his arrest out of Canby (Fail to Appear - Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana) and Wenatchee, Washington (Probation Violation).

Oregon DMV records indicate a Eugene-area address, but he only had a file number issued in his name and had never been issued an Oregon driver's license. Attempts to identify and locate next of kin have been unsuccessful.

Anyone with information regarding Kevin Anthony Briggs' next of kin is asked to contact the Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office at (503) 655-8380.

Troopers from the OSP Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation in conjunction with UPRR police. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Canby Fire Department assisted at the scene.

What Matt said.. and one other thing... Please tell me why you would report a tragic death and then throw in a criminal history just for the heck of it. Does it have anything at all to do with the story? NO. I hope if I die when it's unexpected the media doesn't release my detention records from high school to fill space.

I seriously hope Oregon's stupid and antiquated laws against pot didn't incite this man to kill himself. Since there is no money to treat people with mental illnesses due to the republican party's drive to save tax money, there is little hope left for many. I know greedy and self driven people won't get this, they won't care, but they will one day when they are judged for their actions by a much higher power. The GOP has all but ruined this country, there will probably be a revolution and everything we know and love will disappear because of the greedy corporate nature of a few white men in the GOP. God help us and bless this man who should not have died this way. Matt Johnson, the Malibu Crew: live to surf-surf to live
