Search On for Escaped Prison Inmate Clinton Orvill Swearingen II

During the course of the search over the last three days, law enforcement recovered blood from a stolen vehicle and clothes covered in blood abandoned in a local Madras neighborhood.

Swearingen is a 31-year-old Caucasian male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

(MADRAS) - Oregon State Police, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Madras Police Department are still searching for inmate Clinton Orvill Swearingen II, who escaped from Deer Ridge Correctional Institution on Sunday, May 4th.

DRCI staff discovered inmate Clinton Orvill Swearingen II missing during the 10:15 p.m. count time, Sunday, May 4. Video footage shows that Swearingen climbed the razor-wire fence at approximately 9:20 pm. Oregon State Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office were immediately called to respond to the situation.

During the course of the search over the last three days, law enforcement recovered blood from a stolen vehicle and clothes covered in blood abandoned in a local Madras neighborhood. These were sent to the Oregon State Police for processing to determine if they belonged to Swearingen.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins' opinion is that Swearingen is no longer in the Madras area but he can't confirm, so all citizens should remain on the lookout. Law enforcement is responding to all reports. Swearingen is a 31-year-old Caucasian male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information regarding Swearingen's whereabouts is asked to call Oregon State Police at 1-800-452-7888.

The search for Swearingen has been a collaborative effort in conjunction with the Oregon State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Madras Police Department, Warm Springs Police Department, Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, Bend Police Department, Central Oregon SWAT Team and Jefferson County Search and Rescue Pilots.

Swearingen entered DOC custody on Feb. 4, 2014, on one count of theft in the first degree, two counts of burglary in the second degree, and two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle out of Linn County. His earliest release date is Dec. 10, 2017.

DRCI is located four miles east of the city of Madras in central Oregon. The prison comprises a 774-bed minimum-security facility and a 1,228-bed medium-security facility. It provides a range of correctional services and programs, including education, drug and alcohol treatment, cognitive classes, and work opportunities. The minimum facility opened in 2007, and the medium facility is not receiving inmates at this time.
