(Dallas, Oregon) - Today at approximately 11:52 am the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a water rescue call on the Willamette River approximately one mile south of the Buena Vista Ferry. Also on scene during the initial response were Marion County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire, Polk 1 Fire, Jefferson Fire, Albany Fire and the Oregon State Police. Polk County deputies determined that a male, who was identified as 52 year old Anthony Lane of Dallas, Oregon, was anchored on the Willamette River near river mile 107.5. Lane, fishing alone, is thought to have fallen over board while apparently trying to dislodge his anchor. A nearby boater heard shouts of "Hey" and upon investigating found the mentioned boat to be unoccupied. The above mentioned agencies responded with boats and began a search of the area with negative result. Newburg Fire Dive team was called to the location and deployed a diver who was hampered by the strong currents and determined the diving conditions were unsafe. At approximately 5:25 pm the search was suspended and all units cleared from the scene. Further search efforts, if any, are to be determined. News Release from: Polk Co.
