Deputy Hathaway was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. She has been released from the hospital.

A second Deputy was injured during this incident, he was also taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Mr Bennett, The story is not about the jail making money from phone calls. It is not about a persons "civil" rights being denied. It is not about extortion. It is about a lunatic attacking an officer, my sister. As an attorney, you should look at all the facts! If you feel the fault is that of the detention center, then maybe you should call Mrs Hathaway and make her your client so that you can bring suit. Hey maybe there have been other "no phone call lunatic" attacks and you can make it a "class action" lawsuit. Take your hotshot degree away and put yourself in the "victims" shoes. The victim being the person from the original charge and my sister. Lack of a phone call should not provoke an attack. Being femaile should not provoke an attack. This guy has serious issues and that is a fact. My sister is left with physical and emotional scars just because she was doing her job. Wake up!

I can see why no one would take the call , violent and stupid is no way to go thru life .

It is obvious that Clifford Lande has some issues--and now criminal charges. But at least part of the fault is the detention center he is being held at. Jails make a lot of money by contracting out inmate's ability to call somebody. The jail is paid a percentage of the money billed to the recipients telephone bill. As a lawyer with a name near the top of the alphabet, over the years my office has received hundreds of calls from inmates wanting to talk to a lawyer. I did not do criminal law, and therefore refused the calls. I consider the jail's actions in doing this borderline extortion of the inmate's friends and family.
