(TEHRAN / SALEM) - A political analyst has warned against the ramifications of the Western countries’ indiscreet policies that can push the world to the brink of a third world war.

In a Friday interview with Press TV, Tim King lashed out at NATO for acting as the US proxy across the world.

“These Western countries, their lack of discretion with military targets, it’s just horrifying,” the commentator said, adding, “It just seems like we are marching toward this inevitable third world war that could so easily be avoided by just letting nations handle their own affairs.”

He alluded to the West and NATO’s interventionist approach to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and argued that in case of any military confrontation in the region, none of the warring factions will turn out to be the winner.

On Thursday, NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow said Russia’s actions in Ukraine have forced the Western military alliance to treat Russia as more of an enemy than a partner.

He stated that the alliance is considering new measures to deter Russia from any aggression against NATO members along its borders.

Tensions between Russia and the West heightened after Ukraine’s former Black Sea peninsula of Crimea joined the Russian Federation following a referendum on March 16.

The United States and its European allies accuse Russia of violating Ukraine’s sovereignty by stirring up pro-Russia protests in eastern Ukraine.

Russia denies the allegation, saying the protests have begun spontaneously against what it calls the illegitimate interim government in Kiev.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday that the crisis in the Eastern European country is the result of the West’s weak policies.
