Public's Help Requested in The Dalles Area Theft

A skid steer is Caterpillar's version of a vehicle commonly referred to as a "Bobcat" type tractor. It is valued at approximately $50,000.

(THE DALLES, Oregon) - Oregon State Police troopers from The Dalles are investigating the theft of an expensive piece of heavy equipment taken from a highway construction zone.

Personnel from K & E Excavating reported that the "skid steer" was taken from the jobsite along Interstate 84 approximately one mile east of The Dalles at approximately 1:00 AM Monday morning. A skid steer is Caterpillar's version of a vehicle commonly referred to as a "Bobcat" type tractor. It is valued at approximately $50,000.

According to Trooper Mark Jubitz, it appears that the equipment was loaded onto a trailer and taken from the area. The stolen vehicle has tracks instead of tires and looks similar to the attached photograph.

OSP is seeking the help of the public to locate the equipment. If anyone has any information regarding the theft, we ask that they contact the Northern Command Center at (800) 452-7888.
