May-01-2014 11:22TweetFollow @OregonNews The VA is at it AGAIN!!Paul Sutton for Salem-News.comThis one is going to cost MILLIONS.
(WASHINGTON DC) - Another example of "run-away" spending by our "friends" at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. This was received overnight from a trusted, well-placed source in the VA. Can't wait for my Congressman's local Advisory Group meeting on 15 May!! I got a phone call from my coach Monday advising me that the VA "found" some money and they are taking 2,000 people across the nation who are not meeting the production standard and sending them to a training facility in Leesburg, VA for 3 weeks. (National Convention Center, Leesburg, Virginia - we have the old Xerox building - read some of the reviews) It is going to cost MILLIONS. Care to do some math? The room cost, which is a joke at $186.00 per night. It 's a single room, with a desk, a dresser and a bed. I saw a picture of the room from someone who was there. The picture showed the dresser and the bed. The room is so small you couldn't open the dresser drawers more than 6 inches because the bed is in the way. The closet is about the size of a school locker. He said if you had to go to the bathroom, just roll over, of course that wouldn't work for a female. Back to the math, (for one person): $186.00/night time 21 days = $3,906.00 Then you have the expense of airfare which will vary in price across the nation and don't forget the shuttle fees $45.00 one way from Dulles to the compound = $90.00 round trip. So if we just count the cost of the room fees for now since we don't have the cost of airfare, the VA is going to spend roughly $7,812,00.00 just in room fees. If it is so imperative to do this training, why in the name of Fin can't it be done locally as training of this magnitude has been done before. The money could be better spent elsewhere,... like on our Veterans! Why people aren't making production is a whole other topic of conversation for another day,.. it's not the fault of the employee,.. it's a management issue, yet .the employees are the one blamed. "Someone" needs to know what's going on. Feel free to inform whoever! Paul Sutton "Dominus Fortissima Turris" The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The realist adjusts the sails. Land of the Free Because of the Brave
