(SALEM) - Salem-News.com is joining forces with Oregon`s top-rated news/talk radio station 1190 AM KEX in Portland, to bring Oregon listeners more news and information from the capitol city and the Mid-Willamette Valley. Salem-News.com General Manager Bonnie King says the new arrangement will be a benefit for people throughout the state.

`The move is significant and speaks directly to the need for more news from the Salem area. We appreciate the broad vision and the desire of KEX News Director Brad Ford to initiate this relationship."

In 2005, The Associated Press in Portland announced that Salem-News.com was the Oregon AP`s number-two broadcast news contributor. That means that with the exception of one radio station, Salem-News.com supplies more news and information to the AP`s Broadcast Division than any other news organization in Oregon.

The name attached to almost every AP news contribution from Salem-News.com, is Kevin Hays, the group`s News Director and a Salem native. Kevin`s history includes two News Director of the Year Awards with the Radio TV News Director`s Association while working in California`s Bay area. He also served the Sacramento ABC television station as an assignment editor, gaining in the process a different kind of capitol city experience.

Kevin Hays will be the voice of Salem-News.com that will be heard on 1190 KEX. Salem-News.com Executive Editor Tim King, says there is no better choice.

`Kevin will be perfect for the role, he has major background in radio news and he is very dialed in to local information from countless sources. We look forward to hearing Kevin on KEX and we know their listeners will gain from the added mid-valley news."

Tim King recently departed Portland ABC station KATU Channel-2, where he worked for over three years as a news photojournalist/reporter. He left the station after a change in management, and the announcement that the station`s Salem news segment would be cancelled. Salem-News.com has grown significantly since King resigned from KATU.

`It has been clear for a long time that if any Portland news organizations were truly interested in Salem, that they would choose to work with our team. We have the place covered, and now so will News Radio 1190 KEX."

Listen for the debut of Salem-News.com`s Kevin Hays over the coming days on Oregon`s News Radio 1190 KEX.
