UNC to Remember Eve Carson Today

UNC classes will be cancelled today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The University of North Carolina will remember the late Eve Carson, student body president and member of the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees, with a Celebration of Life ceremony today beginning at 4 p.m. in the Dean E. Smith Center.

(CHAPEL HILL, NC) - The University of North Carolina will remember the late Eve Carson, student body president and member of the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees, with a Celebration of Life ceremony today beginning at 4 p.m. in the Dean E. Smith Center.

Carson, 22, was found shot to death March 5 in a suburban neighborhood not far from the UNC campus at about 5:00 a.m. Police have charged 17-year-old Laurence Lovette and 21-year-old Demario Atwater with Carson's death. Lovette has also been indicted in the death of 29-year-old Abhijit Mahato a student a Duke University who was found shot to death dead January 18 inside his apartment a few block from the Duke campus.

UNC classes will be cancelled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

For UNC staff who would like to attend the ceremony, attendance is considered work time, with your supervisor's approval. Coordinate with your supervisor to ensure appropriate coverage in your department.

Everyone is encouraged to wear Carolina blue. Doors to the Smith Center will open at 3 p.m.

Getting to the Celebration:

Students, faculty and staff on campus are urged to walk to the Smith Center or use the campus RU and U buses, which will have extra buses added to their routes before and after the service. View the U schedule here and the RU schedule here.

The general public is encouraged to use special park and ride shuttles from the Friday Center parking lot and park and ride lot off NC 54, across from Meadowmont. Carolina Liveryshuttles will begin running at 2 p.m. and will continue until service attendees depart the Smith Center (approximately 6 p.m.)

Those who drive to campus should be aware that access to the Smith Center will be restricted, with a traffic pattern similar to that used for men’s home basketball games.

Limited public parking will be available in the following campus lots:

  • Rams Head Deck (pay rates suspended from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Manning Lot (approximately 250 spaces)
  • Bowles Lot (as spaces open from daily turnover)
  • Business School Deck (as spaces open from daily turnover)
  • Craige Deck (as spaces open from daily turnover)
  • Hibbard Drive (as spaces open from daily turnover)
  • Jackson Deck (as spaces open from daily turnover)

Dear students,everyone reading this I am smpathetically sorry for this tragedy that happened. I just wanted to stay that I think the world should know about this girl, she's amazing. Right now at this point I am watching the Eve Carson memorial, and I just feel like bursting into tears right now, and I hope that eveyrthing gets better for the students, and that Eve will be remembered!
