Again, Rohingya Hamlets are Ablaze in Maungdaw, Western Burma

The international community is eerily quiet over the state-backed violence by Rakhine extremists against Rohingya in western Myanmar.

(MAUNGDAW, Arakan) - On 15th March today, it is reported that again those remained houses in  Du Chee Ra Tan and its nearby hamlets after the arson on 10th March are ablaze now. People could not approach to the flaming houses due to excessive heat.

A Rohingya witness who saw the sudden fire after explosion of balloons told Burma Times that the state-backed Rakhine extremists use chemical powder, remote controlled— balloons, airplane and butterflies— and they go away after putting them in Rohingya villages at night. When the chemical powder gets heat from sunlight, the surroundings where the explosive devices kept by Rakhine extremists gets started to be ablaze when chemical powder is exploded.

Yesterday night, two Rakhine strangers were caught by Rohingya in Sab Bey Goon hamlet and they acknowledged first from Du Chee Ra Tan Natala( model villages set up by government in Rohingya quarters);due to reiterative interrogation, they acknowledged finally that they are from Buthidaung Natala village. Then, they were handed over to the Bawli Bazar police station and not any action is taken against them yet.

“The main reason behind this kind of arson attacks in Rohingya villages is: a. to keep them in squalid and concentrated refugee camps as President Thein Sein proposed to UNHCR chief mr. Guterres that the government was prepared to hand over the Rohingyas to the UNHCR, otherwise, they will be kept in refugee camps in July 2012 , b. to eliminate them from Myanmar census 2014 which will be conducted from 29 March to 10 April 2014.”

An appeal from Du Chee Ra Tan village by one of Rohingya arson attack victims: the international community is eerily quiet over the state-backed violence by Rakhine extremists against Rohingya in western Myanmar. The international community should immediately speak out against the state backed violence against Rohingya and should deploy independent security forces to protect them.
