(PORTLAND, OR) - Following news earlier this week that Republican candidate Mitt Romney would not be attending the last scheduled presidential debate in Oregon, the Oregon Republican Party announced Thursday that the event has been canceled. The debate was scheduled for Monday evening, March 19, and was set to air on the Oregon Public Broadcasting network and affiliated public broadcasting networks nationwide. On his Facebook page, ORP Chairman Allen Alley said that the event sponsors tried to find other dates and venues to accommodate the candidates’ schedules but that they ultimately could not. Oregon’s May 15 primary election for the nomination of presidential candidates is one of the last in the nation. Despite that, Alley said that Oregon will be important in getting one of the candidates to the Republican nomination. “We had tremendous engagement from each of the candidates. They sincerely tried to work with us and indicated that they will see us later this year,” he wrote. “Their interest in coming to Oregon verifies that our 28 delegates will be important as they calculate a path to 1144 and the nomination.” Special thanks to Oregon Capitol News Articles for March 14, 2012 | Articles for March 15, 2012 | Articles for March 16, 2012 | googlec507860f6901db00.htmlQuick Links
