Portland Rockers Shocked as KUFO 101.1 FM is No More

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The rockin clock has stopped ticking for KUFO 101.1 FM in Portland Oregon. A standard for 21 years, the loyal northwest rockers will be on their way to another place on the dial to find their favorite morning show jocks, Kidd Chris and Porkchop who have been replaced with The Glenn Beck Program and The Lars Larson Show.

That's right, now listeners will have to adjust themselves for talk radio should they keep that button programmed to 101.1, as KXL took that spot mid-morning March 15th.

Alpha Broadcasting turned out the light for the rock ’n’ roll radio station and replaced it with Newsradio 750 KXL’s AM lineup, being simulcast as KXL-AM/FM, with local and national news, and traffic reports throughout the day.

"We just wanted to take a moment and thank you, our devoted listeners, for 21 rockin' years. You have listened and supported KUFO through 14 Rockfests, a variety of DJs, a couple of owners and countless events, large and small. We have appreciated your input over the years and continue to do so today."

“Today begins a new chapter in Portland radio as we bring the news and information heard on KXL to the FM dial at 101.1,” said Bob Proffitt, Alpha Broadcasting’s president and chief operating officer.

“The future of news is on FM and we are excited to be the first to make the move.”

In addition to KXL-AM/FM, Alpha Broadcasting of Portland also owns KXTG-FM, KUPL-FM, KINK-FM and KXFD-AM.

As this was a decision based on money and greed. The most appropriate response for everyone that hates this is to get motivated and send letters to Alpha broadcastting stating that you will actively AVOID purchasing from or soliciting the activities of their sponsors. Threaten their profits and watch them eventually turn their bellies up in submission.

Extreamly disapointed that there is no more real rock/ metal station. All that's left is 105.9. And they play the same song 10 times a day. Music is my life and all I did was listen to kufo. Somthing good better happen soon!! Instead of this stupid talk radio shit

I grew up listening to KUFO and (until it went down) I used to stream it to my house here in Idaho... What am I going to do now? The only rock station out here (KQXR) is okay... but not great.

I listened to kufo from the time it cane to be till it went away the dj.s in portland only played play list songs or a sides I have heard enough led zepplin to make me puke and at the emd the played the same shit over and over and over every day and you could almost set your clock by what was on ufo to the editor : dig your head out of your ass learn your history but I think that you have fallen off the deep end and are way too far gone into left ville get off the drugs

KUFO has been a let down since they let their DJ's go (Cort and Fatboy) a couple years ago. Now this is pulled? Who wants to listen to Lars Larson and idiot Glenn Beck on FM radio!? Such bullshit. Totally disappointed. Looking forward to a new metal and rock station, but 105.9 The Brew is pretty epic, too. Check it out, metalheads!

Wow,KUFO was not my number 1 station KLOO FM IS but I can not get it to come in good in Portland! Just the same I liked KUFO and it was a RUDE SHOCK to hear Larrs Lawson on there instead of some good rock music! What an awful shift without being braced for it! I follow the nes a lot from a lot of sources and did not see or hear anything about this bunch of crap! A lot of people should call up that awful company and give them an hearful like they want to give us!I am taking 101 off my settings!I will just listen to KLOO,KINK,KGON,KNRK,NPR,The oldies station,620 AM, and my CDS and still have my choice to not have some far right lies pushed on me!

I think the changeover is great. I pipe FM to my employees because the AM just get's really noisy. Now instead of country western music they can listen to Glen and Lars, and maybe learn something about their world. It's really too bad for some of you but there is a silver lining to this change for it shows you how taxpayers feel when they see their money being used for NPR and public tgelevision which is full of leftwing crap. I've lived in 4 states for extended periods of my life and most recently here in Portland. KUFO DJ's suck. They talk over the beginning of songs all the time until the singer starts like pop music DJ's do. Like the beginning of rock songs have no relevance to listeners of the music and that we tune in to listen to them talk instead of the actual music. Very pathetic on their part. KUFO was the worst pure rock radio station I've listened to. However, at least it was a pure rock radio station. I'll take bad over none any day. So now we have nothing. Hopefully someone will take the mantle and find some real DJ's that understand why we really tune in.

WY!? Us Oregonians don't need another news station take a pop station there are already to many of them. But not the rock. It is one of the only pure rock stations. Glenn Beck and Larrs Larson those sissies don't wouldn't survive a mosh pit for a 3 seconds. I used to love KUFO, but face it... they lost it about 8 years ago. I started listening to KGON again which isn't even as good as they used to be... and the new Brew 105.9. Charlie is always nice at 97.1. Portland NEEDS more Glenn Beck.. somehow all these liberal bubble living hipsters need a reality check.

As far as Portland goes, I watched the great LA radio stations go away (KWEST, KMET, KLOS) and only KROQ exists today. The money rules and radio just became a lot less valid as a media in the NW.

KUFO was a fantastic station where you could hear Led Zep, Rush and modern songs all together. They understood what people wanted. It sucks that KUFO went south and it SUCKS more than some right wing fascist would be allowed in their place.. Let us not forget, even rock radio stations are merely part of the corporate American landscape that slimes and bathes in greedy blood soaked money. Beck makes me SICK and he should cause the same reaction in everyone. Whatever happened to cool people? Where did they go? I guess hate is the bigger attraction.

Who ever made this decision SUCKS ASS !I live in Eugene and drive truck to Portland a couple times a week and I looked forward to listening to the Kid Chris show every time I was there gonna miss you all and Connie too, who gives a shit about the news we here and see that every where, take care Chris and gang. Very bumbed indeed. I like to listen to talk radio from time to time but it is a travesty to get rid of such a great station. I wish they would have just tossed it on some other station that I could tune to if I decided I wanted my FM dose of talk radio.

Imagine my dismay when I turn on my favorite radio station to hear some dips@%t rambling on and on about nothing! To Alpha Broadcasting...shame on you, this station has been a Portland rock radio staple for years and you come in and without warning take it off the air!! I know for me, when I get in my car the radio is my escape from the day to day BS, I have absolutely NO intention of listening to the news in my car, especially to a couple of Wankers!!!!! Dude.... This sucks. I have been a listener since 2000 of KUFO and they were the only station that was worth listening to. I was just listening to them yesterday on my way to play some rock music. After a few jams with my guitarist we went to Hooters for a refreshing beverage. I turned on the radio and was shocked as heck at what I was hearing. I thought my radio was broken. What a sad day it is. KUFO was the only hard rock FM station in Portland. Rockfests were awesome - Thanks KUFO and staff for the great memories. There is not a chance in hell that I will be leaving 101 on my car tuner. The last thing Portland needs is more Glenn Beck. Alpha Broadcasting didn't really give KUFO a chance after buying it recently. Seems like they must of had killing off KUFO in mind from the beginning. This pretty much solidifies my retreat from FM for entertainment. Sad day.

The listeners did decide, there was not enough of them. That's how things work, and what the hey, with Beck and Larson you can find out what's really going on. It's a winning move and the advertisers will be lining up. Even though Beck's numbers are going down on radio and tv, they are still over twice that of any far left looney show, including their leading ones. The people speak with their bucks.

Truly a sad day. I am reminded the movie "airheads". I really think the President of Alpha Broadcasting made a poor move. At least inform people of the decision, and let the listeners decide. If I want to listen to KXL, I would turn my radio to AM and listen. So long KUFO, Thanks for the great memories over the years. Been listening to you since I was a wee kid!
