Salem-News.com Adds News Writers

Meet our newest contributors.

Salem-News.com
From the top row left to right: Ersun Warncke, Coral Anika Theill, Bernard Powell, Q Madp, April Scott, Maidhc Ó Cathail, Roger Butow, Amanda Leduc, John Paul Rossie, John McCarthy

(SALEM, Ore.) - We have had the pleasure and great fortune of adding new writers to our staff page in recent weeks and months. It is good news as Salem-News.com continues to climb in the Web ranking scale at a phenomenal pace that is both fast and serious.

The growth we are seeing continues to render our promotional materials invalid, such problems! Along with a soaring online presence, our group of contributors has expanded, and the people we have added are fantastic additions because they are all specialized writers who deliver something that we didn't have already.

Ersun Warncke

Ersun Warncke is not our newest addition by any means, he joined our team fairly recently though. His articles include sizzling, honest and revealing exposes on groups that are, as Tom Brokaw would say, 'fleecing America.' Ersun knows politics like few if any writers we have crossed paths with. That goes for laws, history, geography, you name it.

Ersun has broadened his background by spending time in Europe since graduating with a degree in Economics from Portland State University. He also studied Law at University of Oregon. He is an incredibly talented writer working for the forces of good in this world. We are all lucky to have him.

April Scott

April Scott brings our team a wealth of knowledge about GM, genetically modified foods, something she believes every parent needs to know far more about, and the company, Monsanto, that brought the Vietnam generation Agent Orange, a dioxin laden spray used to clear the jungles for U.S. war operations, and now these controversial food products. New laws will slow GM foods, but how much?

April has something in common with Salem-News.com founder Tim King also; she used to work at Portland, Oregon's ABC station, KATU, where Tim was a photojournalist/reporter from 2002 to 2006.

Maidhc Ó Cathail

Maidhc Ó Cathail has to be one of our most interesting writers. Based in Osaka, Japan, this writer's work seems to have extraordinary synergy with Salem-News.com, and each article of his that we publish, just soars to the top of Google and other sites and search engines.

At the time of this writing, his story we published today, "Who's to Blame for the Iraq War?" on Salem-News.Com, is the top pick on the Wall Street Journal Iraq section's Related Headlines from the Web. Born and raised in Ireland, he has been living in Osaka, Japan since 1999. Salem-News.com is happy to have joined forces with this this extremely diverse writer.

Coral Anika Theill

Another person who joined our team recently but whose name is already familiar to many, is Coral Anika Theill. She is an abuse victim turned noted Author, whose book, BONSHEA: Making Light of the Dark, is coveted by Marines and other combat forces in Iraq dealing with combat trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, commonly known as PTSD.

Coral's saga at the hands of her abusive religious husband is a heartbreaking tragedy that is documented in our Salem-News.com pages. It is an honor and a privilege to work with our wonderful friend Coral Theill.

Bernard Powell

Bernard Powell is a serious author/writer who specializes in occult and paranormal issues. His stories make your skin crawl and that is because they aren't fiction. He is the founder of the Salem, Oregon based paranormal research group OPHIR, and the author of the book, “Path of the Heretic, Liber Erratum” which is available for purchase at Amazon.com.

You will not find a more knowledgeable person in this area when it comes to spirituality, and the ties that may exist between the dead and the living. This phenomena if you will, comes in many potential packages, and Bernard's explanations are compelling.

Q Madp

An old friend who is a new addition to our team at Salem-News.com is Q Madp, the photographer of a lifetime of IraqWarheroes.org, whose role in life is to document the memorials and funerals and heroism of the people from the NW who fight for their country, or otherwise served in uniform. There are no other people in the whole world like Q.

His red, white and blue attitude is truly and genuinely nothing less than an expression of his spirit. If everyone in this nation just had a portion of his respect for the people who do the paying and their families, this would be a better place.

Roger Butow

Salem-News.com's 'Odd Man Out' is Roger Butow. He has a bit in common with Tim King as he lives in Laguna Beach, California, and was a U.S. Marine at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. A Vietnam War era Veteran, Roger is exceptional in that he is Southern California's original environmental activist; one who demands and creates real change in the world that benefits the earth's precious commodities.

Roger's work as an environmental consultant has set a course through every type of struggle known to those who actively fight for real change.

Amanda Leduc

Amanda Leduc knows a thing or two about the differences in healthcare between the U.S. and Canada. She is Canadian by birth, and has seen the best and worst of what each country has to offer. Her articles reflect a real cross cultural understanding. Amanda's real love is the care and well being of the nation's animal population.

She is studying Veterinary Technology, and says a great deal of valuable information needs to be shared. Some of that information affects pet owners, and some of that data is important for the public at large. Amanda is a welcome addition with an affinity for animals and a great North American overview.

John Paul Rossie

As a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War period, John Paul Rossie, Salem-News.com Veterans Affairs contributor, examines the issues facing Vietnam Veterans, particularly in regard to Agent Orange, the jungle defoliant produced and sold to the government by companies like Monsanto, that unleashed a cancer among Veterans of that war.

Among the casualties, are many who were members of the U.S. Navy, where the chemicals were stored for transportation to the war theater, and before being loaded on planes to drop over the otherwise dense jungles of SE Asia. John is a key player in the Veteran Advocay group, The Blue Water Navy, as he focuses his writing talent in important areas that strongly aid U.S. Veterans and their families.

John McCarthy

John McCarthy is the newest team member to join Salem-News.com. His background in Vietnam as a Special Forces officer, was preceded by years as one of the players in the Cold War spy game. John's knowledge is a major benefit in particular for Vietnam Veterans who are trying to find their way through the tangled maze of bureaucracy that comprises the VA system.

Along with our writer Dr. Phil Leveque, this war veteran and Salem-News.com Veterans Affairs writer has information that is not otherwise readily available to help people in a very realistic way.

In Conclusion

Salem-News.com is gaining world popularity in ways that we never really expected. Our philosophy of pursuing news through a true lens is the only real thing we have been driven by. It is just terrible that American media has become such a disappointment in terms of effort and commitment. There was a time when television networks had reporters all over the world. They have scaled back in ways that nobody in the early days of news would have ever believed or anticipated.

Newspaper is also scaling back in unprecedented ways, as new Internet media pulls the rug out from under the feet of the old guard.

We are motivated by Edward R. Murrow and other heroes of modern electronic journalism. We produce a product that is neither newspaper or television, but both, with the added feature of interconnectivity, which in and of itself puts us light years ahead of all traditional media.

Salem-News.com Publisher Bonnie King, says this group of ten joins over thirty existing writers. Some, like Henry Clay Ruark, have been with us from the beginning. Writers like Dr. Phil Leveque, Daniel Johnson, Doug Dickerson and so many more, contribute on an extremely regular basis. Three writers in this group lean toward Monsanto and Agent Orange as a focus, and they join our original reporter on this subject, Chuck Palazzo, a U.S. Marine Veteran who lives in Da Nang, Vietnam.

Also with us from the earlier years is our cartoonist Glenn Bledsoe. His excellent work has been a Salem-News.com exclusive from the beginning, and his contributions are frequently timely in terms of politics.

Alysha Atma, along with Stephen Atma, are generating stories about the problems in Sudan and they are also deeply involved in a key fundraising project that they will deliver to Haiti in the coming weeks. Congratulations to both of them for these awesome and life changing efforts.

Other writers include Ken Ramey, Dexter Phoenix, Lee Coyne, Michelle Andujar, Dawn Hatchard, William Barth, Jeff Gates, Alan Sabrosky, Jerry West, Bob O'Dowd, Gordon Duff, Phil Northcutt, Allan Erickson, Austin King, Anthony Wright, Kevin Montgomery, Sean King, Lela Taylor and Karin Friedemann.

Leave it to you Daniel to pull out the trump! Lol of course great minds think alike they say, eh? Good job!

Amanda: To go beyond your definition here is what the Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy says of socialism: Political system in which the (major) means of production are not in private or institutional hands, but under social control. Typically this is seen as one aspect of a more general concern for people’s equal rights to various benefits (health, education) and of a concern to limit the inequalities of wealth and power produced by the unrestricted operations of market forces. Socialism avoids the totalitarian implications of communism, and works within liberal democratic constitutions.

In my mind socialism is acknowledgement that the earth belongs to everyone, and everyone, in principle, should have a say in how it is used.

Amanda Leduc March 24, 2010 12:54 pm (Pacific time)

Straight from the dictioinary :so·cial·ism  [soh-shuh-liz-uhm] –noun 1.a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. This does NOT mean "taking" the wealth and distributing it as the socialists see fit. This means distributing everything among the people so that everyone may prosper!

Anonymous March 16, 2010 8:51 am (Pacific time)

Socialism in it's purest form is using others people's wealth and distributing it as the socialists see fit. Then when that wealth is consumed you have anarchy and guess who is on the hit parade then?

Jess Phillips Jr. March 14, 2010 8:37 pm (Pacific time)

Socialism, in its truest form means helping those less fortunate. What wrong with that? Have you never needed help? There are those in this country who are less fortunate that you and I. Why can't we help them?

Daniel Johnson March 14, 2010 6:44 pm (Pacific time)

Hank: Lee writes as if being a socialist is a bad thing. It works the other way, as well. When the Wall Street Journal hires new reporters, you can just as easily say: "I see your new staff members continue to fuel your capitalist views." Capitalism is about money. Socialism is about people. That's what we at SN are about. And that's a good thing.

Hank Ruark March 14, 2010 6:24 pm (Pacific time)

Lee: What would you prefer ? Can you explain clearly WHY ? Have you EVER written ? WHY NOT ? All it takes is English language and guts to say your piece. English comes free with home and school, and most are born with alltherest. THEN you can spell out what you feel and WHY, rather than simply IMPLY it and FLY...

Tim and Bonnie, I and all of Coral's friends and supporters are simply delighted to learn that Coral is now a writer for the Salem-News. Coral is one of the best writers and researchers that I know. The addition of Coral on staff will bring a entirely new group of visitors to your web site. From all of us... Thanks!

Hank Ruark March 14, 2010 10:53 am (Pacific time)

Best of welcomes to all the newcomers; make sure to fasten your seatbelts here !. Old story unrepeated but key line familiar to some already is "...keep on keepin' on !"; that fits S-N situation like custom-cut glove...surely a fitting image (no pun !).

l.e. lee March 14, 2010 8:54 am (Pacific time)

i see your new staff members continue to fuel your socialistic views.
