(PORTLAND, OR) - When is the right time to lose one’s virginity? According to 52 percent of the 3,560 Portland females surveyed, 21 is the “lucky number.” SeekingArrangement.com conducted a national study of over 77,000 women in 24 major US cities and found that single women in Portland females generally wait longer than the national average of 17.4 years old. In fact, 1 in 7 Portland females are still waiting for “the one.”

At what age should women lose their virginity? An online dating study conducted by SeekingArrangement.com, in which 3,560 Portland females were surveyed, revealed that 21 years old is the most ideal age for a woman to lose her virginity. In fact, 1 in 7 Portland females on the website are still virgins.

The website, which caters to over 2 million members, conducted a national survey of 77,027 females in 24 major US cities in order to determine the relationship between online dating and sexual activity. The results are quite intriguing—the immediacy of online dating generally increases casual dating, but it also increases selectivity amongst those who are still virgins.

Approximately 74 percent of all women claimed that online dating has increased their selectivity for finding “the one,” with only 18 percent attributing marriage as the cause for waiting:

Reasons for Retaining Virginity (77,027 Females Surveyed)

1.) Connectivity (Online Dating, Social Networking, etc.) – 74 percent

2.) Waiting until Marriage – 18 percent

3.) Personal Beliefs (Religion) – 6 percent

4.) Upbringing (Culture) – 1 percent

5.) Other - < 1 percent

“The modern woman is much less idealistic—many realize that marriage doesn’t always end in bliss, so they date often and carefully,” says Brandon Wade, CEO and Founder of SeekingArrangement.com. “Our study, which is the largest of its kind, proves that virgins do exist, and many now use online dating as a resource to find that special someone.”

According to Wade, SeekingArrangement.com consists of ideal men for women to date and aspire to marry—men who are intelligent, successful, and wealthy. Wade asserts that these type of men are openly generous and willing to take care of their partners or wives.

“Many women regret losing their virginity to a loser,” says Wade. “Virginity is something special that should be cherished for someone special, and online dating offers another avenue to find that perfect person.”
