(SANTIAM CANYON, Ore.) - Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a Burglary that had just occurred at the Sierra Restaurant and Market in Gates Wednesday around 4:00 a.m. Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says the owner had been notified by his Security Company that an alarm had been activated at the Restaurant/Market and he called 9-1-1. "The suspect entered the market after breaking the glass door and took several items from within the store," Lorance said. "While deputies were investigating that burglary they received a report of another incident that had just occurred at the Swiss Village Restaurant in Mehama, around 4:30 am." Lorance says deputies responded to that location and made contact with the owner, who lives on site. "She indicated they heard a noise inside the restaurant and got up to see what it was. They turned the lights on and observed the suspect, who was outside of the restaurant, attempting to open up the ATM he had taken from inside." The suspect reportedly fled on foot, leaving the ATM behind and without getting any money. He is described as a white male, wearing a black jacket with a hood, blue jeans and a black ski mask. If you have any information regarding the suspect or these burglaries, Lorance asks that you please please call the Marion County Sheriff's Office at 503 588-5032. "Sheriff's deputies will continue their investigation, however, it is unknown at this time if the two burglaries are connected," Lorance said.
