Mar-09-2007 17:04TweetFollow @OregonNews Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury will Present Inconvenient Truth at Portland Community CollegeSalem-News.comOregon's Secretary of State has recently completed a rigorous training program led by the former Vice President to spread the message about the threat of, and solutions to, global warming.
(PORTLAND) - Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury will appear at Portland Community College to give the Oregon perspective to Al Gore's Academy Award-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." Bradbury will present at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 5th in the Performing Arts Center at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. His presentation will include a slide show and a question-and-answer session with the audience. This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is free after 6:30 PM. Oregon's Secretary of State has recently completed a rigorous training program led by the former Vice President to spread the message about the threat of, and solutions to, global warming. Bradbury was part of a select group that took part in an intensive tutorial about issues surrounding global warming, led by Gore and a team of renowned scientists and environmental educators. Bradbury, as the state's second-highest-ranking constitutional officer, is auditor of public accounts, chief elections officer, and manager of the state's corporate filings and official legislative and executive records. "Bill Bradbury is an outstanding example of the millions of Americans who have been energized by the call to action on the climate crisis," said Gore. "We are so pleased that he has made a serious commitment to this challenge by coming to Nashville to become part of this unprecedented grassroots effort. "Bill will be spending the next year making presentations in and around Oregon discussing how individuals and businesses, schools, and other organizations can be a major part of the solution to the growing crisis of global warming," he added. Well said Jim. You are fortunate to have a father who wants you (or say exposed you to...) to think critically before you make an assessment, rather than the undisciplined emotionalism approach to decision making that those of Miss Doomsayer's ilk. Keep it up!
Jim B Davidson March 20, 2007 2:11 pm (Pacific time)
Neal No doubt Miss Doomsayer has no grasp of what Anthropology is. I recall my father saying what you did, that the far lefty college professor's back in the 60's and 70's were doing just what people like Gore are doing, except they were saying that man's collective pollution was bringing on a new ice age. Frankly I would prefer global warming over an ice age any time. Seems the Pied Piper finds it very easy to control the uneducated masses, or those who do not understand what the scientific method is...the educational system appears to have morphed into not just a propaganda tool for the commie left, but also a recruitment tool for the moonbat political party's out there. An outrage!
Neal March 18, 2007 11:06 am (Pacific time)
Hey there Doomsayer: Thank you for demonstrating how mediocrity has become the norm for just too many people. So is your homeroom teacher giving you a tough time?
Mr. Doomsayer March 16, 2007 9:15 pm (Pacific time)
Yeah, only a real genius like Neal can constructivly justify that global warming is a hoax, based off inputs from his anthropology teacher. I'm so sure this anthropologist guy was really up to date on his climatology as well. Sounds like he new a lot about grapes though. I'm so sure that 99.9 percent of the world's leading climatologists are all being paid off on some political conspiracy for power. Get a grip on reality Neal!
Neal Goldsmith March 16, 2007 3:02 pm (Pacific time)
Jim. You're very welcome. Looking at more than just one side or perspective is always better. I believe that in the fullness of time clear thinking people will be vindicated (those who are capable of grasping the scientific methodology), and those who embrace the hysteria that Gore and his handlers purport will simply fade away. A good thing. P.S. Look for Global cooling to begin around 2010, maybe even 2009. Then there will be calls for a new ice age coming because of carbon and whatever. Something my anthropology instructors said was happening back in the 1960's.

Neal Goldsmith: I must comment on your posting that deals with the grape fields in Great Britain 2000 years ago, etc. . Thank you for your succint information, it has certainly changed my mind about Global Warming (the power of brevity!). I was a big follower of VP Al Gore and his supporters, but after reviewing the other evidence, their science is science. Regarding VP Gore and his followers, it's simply political theatre. It's been said that for those who only care about getting political power, always try to stir up the masses with some type of scenario to promulgate fear, and that you know how to protect them. The historical record we have regarding our past climate is probably the best predictor we have at this time. Maybe one needs to simply follow the money and see just how genuine these doomsayers really are. Thank you again Mr. Goldsmith for causing me to think on a more critical level.
Neal Goldsmith March 14, 2007 1:48 pm (Pacific time)
When Rome controlled Great Britain 2,000 years ago they wrote about the lush grape fields (wine), then it got cold, and not until the 14th century did it warm up enough for those grape fields to once again flourish. Then it got cold. Now since 1950 only about 20 percent of the grape crops planted produce a worthwhile commercial harvest, even with the use of some hardy hybrids. Oh yeah, by the way, the ocean has risen approximately 400 feet since the end of the last ice age. Suffice, there is a written record that shows the warming and cooling periods on our planet (pre-industrial revolution...uno!). There is a geological record that shows literally thousands of warming and cooling periods(see ocean core samples). The glaciers advance and they retreat...deal with it!

Well Grey if you are gonna blame the asteroid and a few dying dinosaurs for global warming, you just come and tell me once you've figured out the exact figure on that particular release of carbon dioxide. I'm sure it won't come close to that of the levels produced by humans. I'm sure it was "natural" and probably didn't interfere with the carbon cycle on any similar scale. Until them I'm gonna go snack on a granola bar while I bleach my hair blonde.
Grey March 13, 2007 12:28 pm (Pacific time)
Justin, it really does sound like you are versed in the "natural" sciences. I'm sure it took plenty of science to bleach your hair blonde and make your granola bar. I'm wondering if an asteroid impact and the death of millions of sauropods, with accomapanying decay (e.g. CO2 and methane) didn't throw a few million tons of CO2 into the atomosphere. I'm not too sure that the mammals that survived that ice-age creating event survived well enough to start the life you now hold. Musta been natural though, all that CO2 ejected into the air, the Earth cooling, plants dying, the ice-a-comin'. Didn't seem to affect us to bad at all. I think we have the talent, the drive, the will and the desire to survive anything.
Justin March 13, 2007 12:18 am (Pacific time)
Well Grey I'm impressed but not really. You play the devil's advocate well by pointing out that scientist's cannot point a finger at man being the cause of global climate change. However, if you were versed at all in natural science, you would understand the natural cycles of the earth. The grand cycles of nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, and of course carbon, cycle back and forth from plants and animals to the soil, atmosphere, and oceans. Winds and water move these substances great distances. All these cycles are now interfered with by human activity. You think that by introducing billions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere worldwide over the course of decades will not affect these cycles??? We can leave it up to the nay-sayers to sit on their arses and complain and say nay or we can rethink the way we do things and work progressively towards reducing carbon emissions and find ways we can live in harmony with the cycles of the earth. If not we will suffer the consequences (of which nobody knows exactly). In the meantime I'm glad schools are showing Al Gore's film and are teaching the truth to children instead of supercilious naysense.
Grey March 12, 2007 11:07 pm (Pacific time)
Awe Justin, we "nay-sayers" have our facts. Aly G, for the most part, has some valid research points in the tale of Truths. However, much to the dismay of those that are current and active in energy and climate affairs, the Big G points the finger at man as the cause of the temperature woes. Not one group of scientists that I have read or heard have unanamously concluded that the temperature increase is man-made, or actually a natural pattern of weather behaviour. Now, since man has only recorded weather and temperature conditions the last hundred years or so (conclusivly, I'm sure Galileo or Archemedise documented a hot, bikini clad day or two)I cannot believe that Al-hondo deserves to win an award for bringing this to our attention in such a fine, cinematic venture. This is another case of Hollywood trying to flex it's political tendons, when it really should be making films to entertain us. I'm sure there were alot of hurt feelings from the team that actually designed the precuser to the Internet and I find it wildly offensive that Gore-bonso is monopolizing the credit for the work of a handful of chicken-little minded scientists. If, in the next international meeting of climatologists there is a maelstrom of consent that dear ole' homosapiens caused this increase, I'll believe it. I also take offense that this Mary Poppins-esc film is being lauded by the liberal teachers and shown to minds not yet mature enough to hold hands, let alone try to demand change.
Justin March 12, 2007 9:49 pm (Pacific time)
All you nay-sayers just say nay and nit pick those who are trying to educate and encourage change for a greater good. Al Gore didn't make the video to grow his already large pocket book, he did it because he feels passionately about saving the Earth and making a change. Nay sayers will try and riducule the fact that Al Gore's home is not energy efficient, yet fail to mention that he and his family donates thousands towards renewable energy research. Also not mentioned is that his large mansion recieves all of its power bought from renewable sources. The next nay sayer to make a comment would better help their cause by backing themselves up with some fact. I doubt they will have thousands of highly educated scientists rallying on their side. Nay sayers are a small percentage of poorly educated critical thinkers out to attack the truth of empiracal science, rather than embrace proven fact and change accordingly.
DT March 12, 2007 7:59 pm (Pacific time)
More properly called. The convenient lie. I wonder if Al knows he is made of carbon.
Hank Ruark March 12, 2007 5:42 pm (Pacific time)
Here's latest off Internet: "Washington - The harmful effects of global warming on daily life are already showing up, and within a couple of decades hundreds of millions of people won't have enough water, top scientists will say next month at a meeting in Belgium. At the same time, tens of millions of others will be flooded out of their homes each year as the Earth reels from rising temperatures and sea levels, according to portions of a draft of an international scientific report obtained by The Associated Press. Tropical diseases like malaria will spread. By 2050, polar bears will mostly be found in zoos, their habitats gone. Pests like fire ants will thrive. The draft document by the authoritative Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change focuses on global warming's effects and is the second in a series of four being issued this year. Written and reviewed by more than 1,000 scientists from dozens of countries, it still must be edited by government officials." Denial may be comfortable now, but will be costly later.
Grey March 12, 2007 4:34 pm (Pacific time)
Academy Award for a great piece of fiction, up for a Nobel Prize and he still manages to spend $30,000 on his own energy bills. Inconvenient that way I guess. A bad case of Al-Gore-a-phobia. But what can you expect from a genuis who claimed to have invented the Internet.
Hank Ruark March 12, 2007 7:17 am (Pacific time)
To those still in-denial of reality proven by worldwide scientist consensus: Welcome to the New Flood !
roundhouse March 11, 2007 12:34 pm (Pacific time)
I guess we found our new "State Climatologist"? Hope he got a pay increase to go along with the Al Gore Vacation Package...
HD Medina March 10, 2007 4:49 pm (Pacific time)
Inconvenient Spoof...the scientists in Britain have accessed it correctly. "Bad science and bad politics woven into one."
