Couple's Gladstone Home Searched for Running an Alleged Prostitution Business

Statistically, the City of Gladstone has low arrest numbers for prostitution and related charges.

(GLADSTONE, Ore.) - Today, the Gladstone Police and the Clackamas County Interagency Task Force served a search warrant on 1400 Cornell Avenue in Gladstone.

Detectives interviewed 43-year old Christina Lee Smith, and her husband, 24-year old Austin J. Batchelor, regarding their alleged promotion of prostitution business.

Also questioned was 40 year-old Charlene Clayton who arrived at the house, while police were there. She was interviewed at the Police Department and later released, pending charges from the Clackamas County District Attorney.

This investigation is continuing and will be delivered to the District Attorney's office when completed for consideration of charges. Police initially started this investigation after community members reported what they were seeing at their neighbor's home. They frequently saw young women coming to 1400 Cornell Avenue and a short time later a man would pull up in a car and also go inside. After a short period of time, the man would leave followed by the woman.

It did not take the neighbors long to come to a conclusion on what they believed was happening and they went to police.

Statistically, the City of Gladstone has low arrest numbers for prostitution and related charges. It is not a common crime in our jurisdiction when compared to other crimes we investigate. And, having it organized in a home in a close-knit neighborhood is even rarer. This case would not have come together had it not been for the help of our community.

The couple could face several charges, one of which could be Promoting Prostitution, a Class C Felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison and $125,000 in fines.

Your next door neighbor might have a sawed-off shotgun. How would you know? I have a real pain in the neck for a neighbor and she is 75 years old. I would much rather have people doing something fun and exciting that having this busy-body nosying around all the time and gossiping too. She is a real prostitute in my eyes. I would love to have male and female prostitutes as neighbors. At least they wouldn't ask me questions about my life and such. It would also be better then television to peek-out of the blinds. It's reality T.V. with V.D.

Legalize it and stop wasting taxpayer dollars for people that like the sport of sex. How is this any different than football with its forward passes, tight ends and wide receivers? You take precautions in organized sports and can do the same in organized sex.
