(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Police bomb technicians determined a suspicious object reported Tuesday morning near the front entrance of the Department of Motor Vehicles building on Lana Avenue in Salem was not an explosive device. Around 8:00 a.m. OSP troopers and bomb technicians along with Salem police responded to the report of a suspicious object outside of the DMV office located at 1905 Lana Avenue NE. The police and bomb technician response closed a section of the DMV parking lot and Lana Avenue for approximately 90 minutes. The object was near the front entrance so as a precaution a portion of Lana Avenue and access to the west parking lot was closed by Salem police and OSP troopers. Building occupants were briefly evacuated from the building at the direction of DMV. An OSP bomb technician using a remote controlled robot examined the object and determined it to be a sleeping bag wrapped with twine possibly belonging to an unknown transient individual.
