Teen Drowns in Swift Moving Clackamas River: UPDATED

This tragedy is a reminder of the high risks swimming in rivers.

(ESTACADA, Ore.) - **UPDATE: The victim of yesterday's drowning at Milo McIver Park in rural Clackamas County has been identified as 18-year old Brandt W. Hatch, Newberg, Oregon. Mr. Hatch's family has been notified.**

Emergency personnel were called to McIver Park about 5 p.m. today.

The Estacada Rural Fire District, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Clackamas Fire District, Lake Oswego Fire Department, TVF&R, Gladstone Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to Milo McIver Park in rural Clackamas County in response to a swimmer who had possibly drown on the Clackamas River, June 29th at about 5 p.m.

Upon arrival, rescuers learned from witnesses that the unidentified teen had attempted to swim across the river with friends, two made it across as the third attempted to make the shore. Rescuers learned that none of the swimmers were wearing PFD's (personal flotation devices).

Rescuers quickly arrived on scene and learned the swimmer had been under water for about ten minutes before rescue attempts were made.

Additional resources to include Lake Oswego Fire and Rescue, Gladstone Fire and Rescue, Clackamas County Dive Rescue, Clackamas County Marine Patrol and TV&R Dive Rescue arrived on scene to assist in the locating the missing teen.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is sad to report that the teen whose name is being withheld until notification to the family can be made did not survive and was located in the river where friends last saw him.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office would like to remind users that the water is still very cold and to wear PFD's when near or in the water. Users should also let others know where you will be and stay with a others when in the water.
