Global Consumer Watchdog Applauds White House for Suspending Trade Privileges with Bangladesh

SumOfUs.org holds corporations accountable for their actions and forge a new, sustainable and just path for our global economy.

(WASHINGTON DC) - Statement by Kaytee Riek, campaign manager for SumOfUs.org, on President Obama’s decision to suspend trade privileges with Bangladesh over concerns about safety problems and labor rights violations in that country’s garment industry:

“We join with workers across the world in applauding President Obama and the White House for taking steps to pressure the Bangladeshi government to follow through with improving the working conditions for garment workers throughout the country.  We hope the White House’s actions today will remind apparel companies, specifically American brands like Gap Inc and Walmart, of the continuing dire conditions in garment factories in Bangladesh and the need to sign the Bangladesh Safety Accord and protect workers from death traps.”

In the last few months, SumOfUs.org in collaboration with the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity, the International Labor Rights Forum, United Students Against Sweatshops, and Avaaz have worked with several international companies including the Italian brand Benetton, Swedish company H&M, Spanish brand Zara, PVH (owner of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger) and Canadian brand Joe Fresh into to the Bangladesh Fire and Building Safety Agreement.

SumOfUs.org is a global movement of consumers, investors, and workers all around the world, standing together to hold corporations accountable for their actions and forge a new, sustainable and just path for our global economy.

Nothing will change in Bangledash until the people are educated about their central banking system, run by the rothchild zionists.. If you read the article, you can see the owners of the slave labor are european and american. This is nothing but a dog and pony show by the obama admin to cool the heels of those who advocate against the slave labor. I think this is more to put pressure on the Bangledash Bank, because they may not be going along with the rothchild banks. BB has problems right now, and I think they are not following the west's central banking schemes. I guarantee you, I will write in a month or two, and you will see. And, the U.S. has slave labor also. Millions of people. Its called Correction Corp, and their stocks are booming. They pay inmates a dollar a day to work, pay off judges to put more in prison, make laws to put non-victim, non-violent offenders in prison. The marines guard the opium in Afghanistan, while the CIA distributes it to the U.S., then putting people in prison who possess it. Why doesnt the obama admin do something about his own country? Because this entire story is nothing but dog and pony. Any idiot knows that suspending trade, or sanctions only hurt the hard working citizens...thanks obama. Why not send arms to some rebels to Bangledash like you do/did in Libya and Syria? Lets make it a real party!! (sic)
