(STAYTON, Ore. ) - The boat slide at the Upper Bennett Dam will be closed between July 15, and August 30, to allow the City of Salem to make repairs to the Upper Bennett Dam.

Upper Bennett Dam is located on the North Santiam River at the upper end of Stayton Island, just east of the City of Stayton.

During a routine inspection of the Upper Bennett Dam in August 2013, a void area was discovered under the structure that required immediate attention. An engineering evaluation and repairs to the dam were designed in the fall 2013.

Due to the fact that the in-water work period is limited to mid July through August, the repairs had to be delayed until this summer.

During construction, the south channel around the island and the boat slide at the dam will be closed.

Boaters can use the north channel around the island, and the boat slide at Lower Bennett Dam will remain open throughout the summer.

Signs alerting recreational users of the alternate route will be posted at common launch points along the North Santiam River, and a sign indicating the detour will be posted upstream of the construction site.
