Oregon Traffic Problems Slow Travel

The affected areas are Highway 20 near Toledo, I-84 between Baker and Lagrande, and Burns, where a fatal crash scene is now clear.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Two highways are seriously jammed and a fatal crash has claimed the life of a Crane, Oregon woman. Officials ask that anyone traveling through the affected areas use caution and take detour routes when possible.

Oregon State Police report that the Westbound lanes of Interstate - 84 from milepost 302 near Baker to milepost 260 at Lagrande are being opened.

The eastbound lanes from milepost 260 to milepost 302 are remaining closed due to a commercial motor vehicle crash with hazardous materials.

The duration of closure is unknown at this time. Law Enforcement, Medical, Fire, and ODOT are on scene. No further information to release at this time.

Oregon Department of Transportation crews report that flaggers are controlling single lane traffic on Oregon 20, the Corvallis-Newport Highway, near mile post 25.

Expect up to twenty minute delays or use Oregon 180, the Eddyville-Blodgett Highway, as an alternate route. Trucks must use alternate routes such as Oregon 18, the Salmon River Highway, or Oregon 34, the Alsea Highway.

Oregon State Police Troopers from the Burns worksite responded to a single vehicle fatal crash at at 3:06 p.m. on Highway 78 near milepost 57. This in located in Harney County near the Harney/Malheur County line about 57 miles southeast of Burns, Oregon.

The crash occurred when a 1999 Ford Contour passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound at milepost 57 and crossed over the westbound lane and left the roadway. The vehicle rolled several times after leaving the roadway.

The operator and lone occupant of the vehicle, 65-year old Linda Lea Pruyn of Crane, was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders. Linda Pruyn was wearing her safety belt and the airbag deployed in the crash.

Oregon State Police Troopers from the Burns worksite were assisted on scene by the Harney County Sheriff's Office, Harney EMS and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
