(INDEPENDENCE, Ore. ) - A three alarm house fire damaged a home on Third street Thursday morning in Independence.

Polk County Fire District No. 1 along with the Dallas, and Salem Fire Departments were able to quickly extinguish the fire, before it gutted the home.

Polk County Deputy Fire Chief Neal Olson says the fire was called in around 2:45 a.m. and started in the basement and quickly worked it's way up the homes walls and spread up into the attic.

Crews were able to control the fire from spreading by cutting holes in the roof and venting most of the smoke and gases from the fire.

Collectables and other household items were damaged in the fire, and the homes occupants were able to get out of the home Olson said.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
