(CLEVELAND) - Our writers have addressed this subject many times and I know they always will. America's bad behaviors and negative thinking patterns are encouraged by media and politicians and alcohol and tobacco lobbies; and it goes far beyond that. I've always found it curious when I pass a bar late at night and the parking lot is absolutely packed. We live in this world of illusions and it doesn't help to have guns and war and violence be such central themes of American society. As Luke reasons, why not just go back to the days of the Old West and shoot it out whenever we have personal conflict with others. Arizona, the state where both residents and politicians are most hungry for free and open gun ownership, is the same place where politicians and judges and little school girls are shot in rapid succession at sidewalk gatherings, and a Marine Veteran who served two tours in Iraq, with no criminal record, was recently shot dead in his home by police who believed he was a drug dealer, but failed to find any evidence of this after firing 71 bullets at the man, striking him 60 times. Thank God he had time to tell his wife and four-year old boy to hide in the closet before the police opened fire. But this is just part of what we see when we look around this beautiful country that offers so much, but has become far less it seems, than it once was. The only answer is to strive to instill better ideas, better morals, and positive thinking in our future generations. _______________________________________
Guns In BarsHey! Why not bring back the days of Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp? And while we are at it do not stop with allowing guns in bars, Too bad he’s dead and drowned because I’d say invite Osama, “Stupid is as stupid does” just where in the heck is Forrest Gump? Not only that, why do we need a president, a congress or a house? Hit the lottery, spent $500,000.00 on a new ride what do you think? Breaking & entering, CCW, forgery, assault, theft, no longer a crime, Police departments should not be allowed to give tickets anymore,
Poems By Luke Easter _____________________________________________
Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in. We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end. Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. To evaluate the danger of one being able to carry a concealed handgun (licensee!)in a bar, or any other public accessed location, is to look at the stats. Just how many people who have CHL's are shooting up the bars, or any other place? Well it's pretty much nil, and criminals certainly don't care about the laws, so the law abiding should stay out of those places that forbid you to carry and protect yourself and loved ones, from criminals. Next, who is the major group that causes all the crimes, and where are they mostly located? Pretty obvious whose doing the majority of gun crime, even in a proportional way. I say those who are forbidden by law from carrying should have minimum sentences, with no ability by judges to provide lesser punishments. For a second offense, life without parole. The Brady gungrabbers never use the actual facts regarding gun crime because of their PC BS, so when the facts are actually provided, that is when public safety can be properly appraised, and law enforcement can proceed without worrying about the PC BS.

Bed-wetters' baloney. The problem doesn't exist where such laws are already in place. Logic, people, logic. Scumbags already carry wherever they wish, in violation of the law, which is their lifestyle. It is only peaceable, law-abiding people who haven't because it's illegal. The danger is from the first, not from the second, and this law will be a good thing, not a bad one. Change your diaper. If you can vote, you're old enough to do that for yourself.

The days of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday were much safer days than today. The author of the poem needs to get more of his history from credible sources rather than the movies.

Home, the bar, wherever. Why are we such a fear driven culture ? You can make a law but that just makes those that are willing to break it the only ones with firearms at the bar. Peace

But, the right to bear arms in an establishment serving alcoholic beverages? More like at home?
Douglas Benson June 19, 2011 6:05 am (Pacific time)
THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED . PERIOD . Can you say freedom riders? Just a few short years ago civil rights were exercised by black men with firearms. Rights are taken by their own exercise and all rights are secured by the right to bear arms. If you dont love it leave it let these words be a warning to you youre running down my country man and what my family fought and died for it to be. Peace
