Jun-17-2011 14:51TweetFollow @OregonNews US Orders News Blackout Over Crippled Nebraska Nuclear PlantSalem-News.comReport notes the “cover-up” of this nuclear disaster by President Obama is based on his “fantasy” of creating so-called green jobs which he (strangely) includes nuclear power into.
(MOSCOW ) - Editor's note: I am about to approve a comment on this story that claims it is a hoax, in fact it is not a hoax, it possibly may not be entirely accurate, but this piece has been carried by many agencies already. There are so-called 'Citizen Journalism' sites that sometimes strike it with groundbreaking news, so the fact that they allow people to post their own stories means they need disclaimers, unlike Salem-News.com which is staffed by working news editors and other personnel Now the fact that it is on Wikipedia does not make it true, but I think if that information were blatantly false, the nuclear plant's publicists would have instantly stripped from the pages of the world's online public encyclopedia. No matter what, they built this nuclear power plant in the flood plain of the Missouri River, for God's sake! It reminds us that there are questions over whether nuclear power developers have souls and they don't even bother making these places on safe high ground. The nuclear power plant near where I went to high school and college; Diablo Canyon at Avila Beach, California, is built on a Native American burial ground at a canyon named after the devil. Nuclear power, it is not clean, and it is all one big looming disaster. That is why people in affected areas, like San Luis Obispo, California, (Diablo Canyon) have always held the torch of resistance high over dangerous, deadly nuclear power that is anything but clean. So shortly after the disaster in Japan, we now have our own; but just ask the suits and they will tell everyone things are going to be fine, we shall see. In reference to the pending story comment, here is what Wikipedia has to say about the matter: On June 6, 2011 the Omaha Public Power District, as required by Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines, declared a level 1 anomaly (minimal level incident on a 1-4 scale) due to the flooding of the Missouri River. The Missouri River is above flood stage and is expected to rise further and remain above flood stage for several weeks to a month. Contractors have been busy installing sandbags and earthen berms to protect the facility from flooding. According to officials, the plant was built to withstand a 500 year flooding event and though by June 14, 2011, much of the facility was surrounded by the swollen Missouri River, Omaha Public Power District officials were confident that enough redundancies were in place to ensure adequate safety. Officials lie. Political types always admit this, though they go silent when their particular industry is under the microscope. The federal government lied about the Camp Lejeune water contamination in North Carolina for decades; they would like again. Remember that there are other world agencies watching this. As far as the story being a 'hoax'- that is not true. What the actual danger level (1-4) is, what the public officials admit; these are the things we are looking at and will continue to do so. Let's not give the government too much credit for being forthcoming. Of course the mainstream is looking at the matter also, though their headline in this story seems more like a government advertisement than a headline: NRC: No flood danger at reactorBy Nancy Gaarder - WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER Here is the original report: A shocking report prepared by Russia’s Federal Atomic Energy Agency (FAAE) on information provided to them by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) states that the Obama regime has ordered a “total and complete” news blackout relating to any information regarding the near catastrophic meltdown of the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant located in Nebraska. According to this report, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant suffered a “catastrophic loss of cooling” to one of its idle spent fuel rod pools on 7 June after this plant was deluged with water caused by the historic flooding of the Missouri River which resulted in a fire causing the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) to issue a “no-fly ban” over the area. Located about 20 minutes outside downtown Omaha, the largest city in Nebraska, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant is owned by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) who on their website denies their plant is at a “Level 4” emergency by stating: “This terminology is not accurate, and is not how emergencies at nuclear power plants are classified.” Russian atomic scientists in this FAAE report, however, say that this OPPD statement is an “outright falsehood” as all nuclear plants in the world operate under the guidelines of the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) which clearly states the “events” occurring at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant do, indeed, put it in the “Level 4” emergency category of an “accident with local consequences” thus making this one of the worst nuclear accidents in US history. Though this report confirms independent readings in the United States of “negligible release of nuclear gasses” related to this accident it warns that by the Obama regimes censoring of this event for “political purposes” it risks a “serious blowback” from the American public should they gain knowledge of this being hidden from them. Interesting to note about this event was the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chief, Gregory B. Jaczko, blasting the Obama regime just days before the near meltdown of the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant by declaring that “the policy of not enforcing most fire code violations at dozens of nuclear plants is “unacceptable” and has tied the hands of NRC inspectors.” This report further notes that the “cover-up” of this nuclear disaster by President Obama is being based on his “fantasy” of creating so-called green jobs which he (strangely) includes nuclear power into as his efforts to bankrupt the US coal industry proceed at a record breaking pace. Unknown to the American people about Obama’s “war” on the US coal industry is it’s estimated to cost them over a 60% increase in their electricity bills by 2014 and cause over 250,000 jobs to be lost in an already beleaguered economy. More ominous for those American people whose lives depend on the coal industry that is being deliberately destroyed is the Obama regime’s massive “security exercise” currently ongoing in the major coal mining States of Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, and as we can read about, in part, as reported by InfoWars.Com: Obama’s fears of the American people turning against nuclear power, should its true dangers be known, appear to be valid as both Germany and Italy (whose people, unlike the Americans, have been told the truth) have turned against it after the disaster in Japan and vowed to close all of their atomic plants. Perhaps even more sadly for the American people is this report stating that the Obama regime is “walking in lockstep” with Japan in their attempts to keep the truth of nuclear accidents from their citizens; which in the case of the Japanese can only be labeled as horrific as new evidence points to them knowing within hours of the Great Tsunami that their atomic reactors had melted down, but have only today ordered an evacuation of pregnant women from what are called “radiation hotspots.” With a country that some scientists are now warning may soon become uninhabitable due to radiation damage, and with reports of mutant rabbits and radioactive whales now being reported, one wonders if in knowing the truth the American people would really want to follow Japan’s “example” instead of those people in Germany and Italy? But, with an already documented 35% increase in the infant mortality rate for American mothers living in the western coastal regions of the US caused by radiation blowing onto them from Japan being ignored by these people there doesn’t seem to be much hope for them. tsk tsk....shame on the "editor" for being so fiery towards the criticisms. And also for only responding to praise or slams. Seems the "editor" has ego issues.

While there may be some validity to this story, the official statements seem to be in line with reality. They have stocked fuel for em generators to keep the cooling pumps running. As long as the electrical systems for these pumps remain intact, the plant should be OK. As far as nuclear power being inherently unsafe and "dirty", this is a falsehood. The actual process of creating the electricity from heat generated by nuclear power is cleaner than coal fired or gas plants and is on par with hydroelectric power. The main pollutant is heat in the form of heated cooling water. And yes, nuclear power plants tend to be built in flood prone areas because they need a constant supply of cooling water. It is my belief that nuclear power cannot be unilaterally dismissed without alternatives. The Japanese have a study that says by the year 2100, based on current trends in power demand (worldwide), using all earthbased power generation technologies in existence (solar, wind, hydro, fossil fuel, nuclear, etc.) , we will meet only 80% of demand. So what is the alternative?

My opinion is that maybe US citizens should vote for a person and what they stand for instead of voting for a 'party' and being (for lack of a better word) racist.

The oil spill was just a dream too. Wake up. No fly zone, media black out...I seem to remember something like this happening in the past. We have record flooding in several states, this was bound to happen. Keeping it from us, seems to be this administrations specialty. I've never seen anything quite as disturbing before. Say it with me. Police state. It's getting worse, and I don't think it really matters anymore who we vote for. I think it's a matter of changing the whole system...this isn't democracy. If you do not have the facts...how can you possibly vote??? We never have the facts about anything anymore. BTW, if you want news, you have to go to a foreign newspaper because you aren't going to get it from the USA. If you want to know about Justin Bieber, Lindsay Lohan or the late Osama Bin Laden you read US news.
Editor: No, don't go to those sources, do visit Europe but kindly recognize that our news looks like what people need to see, thanks.
TheFinalWerd June 24, 2011 8:18 am (Pacific time)
I am sure that there are parts to this story that are true and I am sure there are parts that are a stretch. The only thing that makes me want to believe it more is that this report came out a week or two before we even informed about the flooding there. So there is obviously some credibility if they found out before us.

> 35% increase in the
> infant mortality rate
That, too, is a bogus story and has been debunked, notably: http://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/post.cfm?id=are-babies-dying-in-the-pacific-nor-2011-06-21

Funny!
Editor: Yeah you're pretty funny, anyone reading this will know you are absolutely from the industry. Your source and my source, his source, this fact checker, that one. You are just minimizing the seriousness of this situation, nuclear power is a terrible thing.

O'realy...
"The federal government lied about the Camp Lejeune water contamination in North Carolina for decades; they would like again"
Editor: Thanks for catching the spelling error. Of course your attempt to hang us out to dry for it is a bit of a stretch. I have news for you, the biggest and best also let small errors slip through. Alert the media!
Don Alex June 23, 2011 10:41 am (Pacific time)
All of you people who are bashing this site for reporting this story, Im curious, if you find them to have such little "credibility", why are you here reading it? The story is being reported by other agencies. Ohh, but it originated with the "Russkies", didnt it? So that automatically means it's untrue, but youll willingly lap up whatever propaganda the US news agencies hand you. I think you are the pathetically ignorant ilk of people that deserve to be irradiated while you sit smugly in your chairs saying "what me worry?" Dream on, Alfred E. The only ones being "duped" are vapid clowns like you, and its not being done by this site, its being done by this country's mainstream news media. Shame on you for enabling them.
the ring leader June 20, 2011 12:23 pm (Pacific time)
media blackouts are nothing new. We'll just have to wait and see if this is a hoax or not
Levi June 20, 2011 12:08 pm (Pacific time)
Look at the source for this story. What exactly makes you think you can trust this website? Is it just your own gut feeling? Why would some random "alternative" news outlet have exclusive access to some mysterious report, allegedly from IAEA? Hello?! Show me the report, or shut up.
Editor: Levi, anyone can quickly verify that there is a serious incident underway in Nebraska. The presentation of this information isn't a 'test' for news agency credibility; you need to take the information and process it And for the record, we publish a lot more news than many mainstream agencies, this group is not an alternative news agency. We just happen to work with Russia TV and have a writer on the ground in Europe who fed this initial information back to us. I mean we're a good alternative....
Marshall Masters - Yowusa.com June 19, 2011 8:03 pm (Pacific time)
To the editor: This was a gutsy call and so to you - bravo. What is it about this story that gives it such legs? Perhaps is that we remember the Japanese government lying through its teeth about Fukuyama and the BP real time white wash during the spill. History is why this story rings a solid note. But that doesn't mean the song is right. Yet...
Editor: Much appreciated, I hate to sound like a commercial but, thanks, I needed that!

The Sizewell B plant in the UK is built within sight of a town where the harbour was closed by an earth tremor in the late medieval period, and the coast line is being eaten by massive erosion. Seems it's the same the world over, my dears.

While I concur that those who serve us in our govenment are less then forthright with us on a regular basis, why would any educated individual put any more stock in the opinion of Russian "nuclear experts"? After all it was the Russian "nuclear experts" that gave the world the Chernobyl NUCLEAR disaster!

Rising water, falling journalism, (op-ed by Dawn Stover, a science writer based in the Pacific Northwest and a contributing editor at the Bulletin), Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, June 16, 2011. "A little farther up the Missouri, at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Station near Blair, Nebraska, the river is already lapping at the Aqua Dams -- giant plastic tubes filled with water -- that form a stockade around the plant's buildings. The plant has become an island. In Blair, in Council Bluffs, and in my hometown of Omaha -- which are all less than 20 miles from the Fort Calhoun Station -- some people haven't forgotten that flooding is what caused the power loss at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and the disastrous partial meltdowns that followed. They're wondering what the floodwaters might do if they were to reach Fort Calhoun's electrical systems.

Based on the ever-increasing incidence of government filtration of information all citizens and taxpayers should be privy to, I do not find this story hard to believe at all. The regular mass media outlets have worked hand-in-hand with the Obama administration even before day 1 to choose what we should hear, how much we should hear, and how tailored the information we are passed should be. If anything, the stranglehold on information has strengthened day-by-day. It certainly seems that the politicians who warm the seats in Washington do not live in the real world and they would like nothing better than to see that every taxpayer is infected with the "La-La Land" virus they seem to enjoy so much.
I for one am very grateful for informational outlets such as Salem-News.com who earnestly try to present the facts as simply, purely, and straightforward as possible. Yes, opinions are presented, as this is the prerogative of any informational outlet. However, unlike the mass media outlets, Salem-News makes every attempt to present opinions as opinions without any attempt to deceive. I guess some people just like living in “La-La Land” and get angry if anyone tries to provide information that might tend to wake them.
