(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, as well as the McMinnville Police Department, is currently investigating several fraud attempts in the county where people are trying to represent themselves as an employee of the Sheriff's Office. The victims have reported they received a phone call from a "Constable James Clark" and stated they missed a jury duty summons. The caller indicated that a warrant was issued for their arrest and they were requesting payment for the fees associated with the failure to appear. The caller would then try to transfer them to "Collections Deputy Joe Morelli" and requested credit card information for payment. Captain Tim Svenson says, "I want the citizens of Yamhill County to know that these calls are fraudulent in nature and they should never give out personal or bank account information over the phone. We work hard to build trust with our citizens and when someone tries to represent our Office in this manner it is very disheartening." The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office does not have any "constables" working for them and they would not attempt to collect payment over the phone. In addition to telephone scams, we also need to be at a heightened awareness level of our home and business computers receiving fraudulent emails. "Citizens need to pay careful attention to unsolicited phone calls and emails because often times what seems legitimate is not and criminals will use realistic business logos and terminology to take advantage of us online" said Captain Tim Svenson. Anyone who has received a phone call of this nature is encouraged to file a report with local law enforcement. Source: Yamhill County Sheriff's Office _________________________________________
