Oregon Trooper Credited With Pulling Man From Overturned Pickup & Minimizing Injuries (PHOTOS)

An unidentified physician who stopped at the scene said the trooper may very well have saved a man's life or at least prevented more serious injuries, by pulling him from the streaming anti-freeze.

(HOOD RIVER, Ore.) - An Oregon State Police trooper was credited with preventing more serious injury to a Vancouver, Washington man after the trooper pulled the injured man from underneath his crashed pickup as anti-freeze was streaming on him.

The incident happened in front of the trooper who was getting ready to stop the pickup following a report of a possible intoxicated driver.

State Police officials explain that on June 5th at approximately 11:30 p.m. OSP Trooper Brent Ocheskey was working west of Hood River on Interstate 84 as part of an enhanced patrol effort focusing on hazardous traffic violations when a citizen reported a possible intoxicated driver eastbound from the Multnomah Falls area.

Trooper Ocheskey spotted the red 2004 Ford pickup eastbound about four miles west of Hood River and pulled in behind it. As the trooper was about to initiate a traffic stop the pickup drifted off the road, struck a guardrail, traveled back across both eastbound lanes and struck the center concrete barrier where it overturned.

The driver, later identified as 27-year old Michael C. Trotter of Vancouver, Washington, was ejected from the pickup and landed underneath its hood. Trooper Ocheskey stopped the OSP patrol car and ran up to the pickup where Trotter was found laying under a stream of anti-freeze falling on him.

Trooper Ocheskey reportedly pulled Trotter from underneath the pickup and rendered first aid until medical personnel from Hood River Fire Department arrived.

Trotter was initially transported to Hood River Providence Hospital then taken by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland with serious injuries.

Follow up investigation resulted today with OSP citing Trotter for DUII and Reckless Driving.
