Oregon Fires Crews Battling Two Fast Moving Wildfires Near Bend

The fire's have grown to over 6,100 acres overnight and some 2,000 homes are now threatened. The fire is zero percent contained.

(BEND, Ore. ) - Two fast moving forest fires which are burning over 300 acres north of Bend, caused homes to be evacuated as firefighters came in to fight the blazes.

The Oregon Department of Forestry says the Two Bulls Fire was called in by a lookout around 12:48 p.m. on Saturday. They were burning in open land around ten miles northwest of Bend.

The Saddleback subdivision in Bend has been evacuated. Several roads are also closed due to the fire.

The fire's have grown to over 6,100 acres overnight, and some 2,000 home are threatened. Residents in the area of the fire are being asked to be ready to evacuate at a moments notice.

The Cascade Middle School has been designated as an emergency shelter coordinated by the local Red Cross. The Red Cross shelter staff and volunteers are providing snacks, water, and access to health and disaster mental health services.

The Deschutes County Fairgrounds has been designated as a livestock shelter for those needing a place to keep livestock.

Firefighters are attacking the blazes Sunday with three hand crews, including elite hot shot crews from Redmond and Prineville, along 13 fire engines, three air tankers, two helicopters, a bulldozer and a water tender, an ODF spokesman said.

The exact cause of what started the fire's is under investigation.
