(HARRISVILLE, N.H.) - The New York Times reported today that the pace of U.S. hiring slowed in May with 54,000 jobs added; the unemployment rate up to 9.1%. 150,000 were expected to be added in May and 250,000 jobs are what were needed to feel that we were making headway against the high unemployment rate. According to the Labor Department, hiring slowed sharply in May, after several months of strong job growth. This raises concerns once again about the staggeringly weak recovery (if a recovery really has begun at all). According to the New York Times: “While any job gains at all are welcome, the pace of job growth thus far has been too slow to reverse much of the damage wrought by the Great Recession, which has left more than 13 million unemployed workers in its wake. For the last few months economists had been predicting that the economy was finally gathering steam and that a sharper bounce-back was imminent, only to be disappointed again and again”. It appears that rather than interrupt their re-election fund raising, most of our elected federal officials decided to just talk about the unemployment issue and throw our tax dollars at it. Trying to work out a solution would just take too much of their valuable time. Then again, how many of our elected Federal officials have actually worked at an hourly job? How many have ever lived paycheck to paycheck? How many have ever had to feel guilty about their children doing without anything? How many have ever had to use mortgage money to buy medicine for a sick wife or child? How many have ever had to live on a Social Security check? When you have never burned your hand on something hot, you really cannot understand why you should not touch a hot burner. Let us face it; most of these people never had to struggle. They can simply take a plane to NY City to take their wives out for an anniversary dinner and price is no object. Think about it for a minute; most any High School Accounting student, if asked what to do about the Federal debt, would respond “Raise Taxes”. Isn’t that what they have told us is needed? The average Grade School child knows that they can’t spend more than they have. Why doesn’t Congress comprehend this obvious fact? When you think of the ethical and moral problems some of these elected Federal officials have gotten themselves into, it makes you wonder. Even my neighbor’s pig knows not to defecate where they eat. I know that these same officials would take great exception to being compared to a High School student, Grade School student, or a pig in the barnyard; yet, it appears that in many cases, the IQ, Common Sense, or Training of our elected Federal officials is somewhat less than the afore mentioned list. I guess you can put lipstick on some politicians but that doesn’t necessarily make him or her smarter than a pig... however, that is just my opinion! _________________________________
Writer Robert Collinsworth is an American who isn't hesitant to talk about the good side of his country, and that is a welcome thing in this day and age. Salem-News.com admittedly, is very critical of both American politics, as well as those of other nations that we perceive is being wrong in their motives and actions. At the same time, within these structures we criticize, are many outstanding people who make each day a better place for all those around them. They embody and personify the American spirit that is sometimes fleeting, but always present. These are some of the things Robert takes into account when writing commentary that is designed reach people, to "get them thinking" in his words, and indeed it does. Salem-News.com's goal is for all people to be on the same page, we appreciate Bob's more conservative approach toward that same goal." To be honest, Bob, I have had more intelligent conversations with pigs than with political "lifers". Well said, Bob. Great piece. Thank you.
