(TOLEDO, Ore. ) - A 51-year-old man from Newport and a 4-year-old girl from Seattle died Saturday afternoon when the small plane they were traveling in crashed along the Oregon Coast.

Douglas Nebert was identified by authorities as the pilot of the homebuilt RV-10, which was headed from Newport to Seattle. His passengers were his 32-year-old stepdaughter, April Gleason, and her 4-year-old daughter, Zoey Wahl, both of Seattle.

The plane went down shortly after take-off from the Newport Airport -- which is about 7 to 10 miles west -- of the crash site, when the plane started to bank, and went straight down into the parking lot of the Georgia Pacific Paper Mill property in Toledo witnesses told authorities.

Gleason was taken by Life Flight to Good Samartian Hospital in Corvallis.

NTSB and FAA investigators are on scene still trying to determine the exact cause of the crash.
