(SALEM, Ore. ) - As thousands of people descend in and around the Oregon State Capitol Mall area in downtown Salem this weekend for the 16th annual 3-on-3 Oregon National Guard Tournament, there are plenty of other options in and around the mid-Willamette Valley for people to enjoy. From climbing to the top of the Oregon State Capitol, to Family Fun Fest at Riverfront Park, to the famous Homer Davenport Days in Silverton there is something for everyone this weekend. Travel to the Top of the Oregon State Capitol: Climb 121-steps to the Oregon Capitol observation deck and enjoy the view of the City of Salem and Willamette Valley. Friday 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 and 2:00 p.m., Friday. Capitol hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Free admission. Homer Davenport Days: Honoring Silverton's native son, Homer Davenport. The event features a parade, arts & crafts, food, music, car show, fun run, Lions pancake breakfast and davenport (couch) races. Friday - Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Coolidge McClaine Park and Other Venues 300 Coolidge St. Silverton, Ore. Riverfront Family Fest: The Riverfront Family Fest is an opportunity for Family Building Blocks to support the community in a free, fun way where families and young children learn more about safety and health with hands-on activities. Free admission. Salem's Riverfront Park. The Great Oregon Steam-Up: 62 acres of family fun. Big parade, train and trolley rides, 15 heritage museums, demonstrations and exhibits, youth passport program, collectibles swap meet, flea market, lots of activities, live music and great food. Admission: $12, kids 12 and under free. Antique Powerland Museums 3995 Brooklake Rd. NE, Brooks, Ore. Fiesta Mexicana: The Fiesta Mexicana in Woodburn is celebrating its 51st Anniversary in 2014. This is a tremendous milestone for the Latino community of Oregon. Founded in 1963 and originally an “End of Harvest” Fiesta for migrant workers in the Woodburn area, Fiesta Mexicana has grown into one of the premier heritage events in Oregon. In fact, it was named the Best Cultural Event in the state by the Oregon Festival & Event Association 2010. You will experience the people, music, art, food and culture of the Mexican people. Fiesta Mexicana offers a wide assortment of activities, from music, dance, performing arts, visual arts, children’s activities, soccer tournament, cultural education, authentic Latin food as well a weekend of local and international entertainment. The Fiesta Mexicana is produced by the Woodburn Area Tourism / Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce, and strives to celebrate the many different aspects of the Hispanic culture. Fishermen's Bend Celebrating 50th Anniversary: Fisherman's Bend Recreation Site east of Salem, and two miles west of Mill City, is celebrating 50 years of providing family friendly camping to generations of campers this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
