(SUBLIMITY, OR) - The second weekend in September will mark the 40th annual Sublimity Harvest Festival, a destination family event that started as a local truck and tractor pull competition and has evolved into a three-day outdoor weekend festival that includes monster trucks, multi-engine and modified tractors, ATVs, horses, modified trucks and farm tractors. The Festival opens on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. with a Pit Party to meet the drivers and their vehicles. The event is held on the Harvest Festival Grounds at Highway 22 and Golf Club Road in Sublimity. “This year is going to be huge,” says Festival president BJ Tuttle. “We’re calling it ’40 and Pullin’ Strong’ because we have more volunteers, more sponsors, more activities, more trucks than we’ve ever had. This year we are working with Pro West Productions and will feature their giant 14 by 18 foot TV screen for instant replays, commercials and sponsor exposure. We’re gearing up for a memorable weekend.” The Festival will welcome stunt trail bike rider Jeremy VanSchoonhoven, , a finalist from the popular television show America’s Got Talent. VanSchoonhoven will perform on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8, both on the track and in the KidZone. This year the KidZone will include a zip line, Zorballs, bounce houses, a rock wall and a traveling balloon artist. For the first time, the Festival will include the Bi-Mart sponsored Toddler Zone, with activities, games and relaxation for the whole family. In addition, "Bill's Fastsaws" is performing throughout the weekend with a V8-engine chainsaw. The 34th annual Sublimity Harvest Festival Road Run and Walk sponsored by Santiam Memorial Hospital will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8. The event starts at the Sublimity Grade School and is offered at three distances: 10,000 meters, 5,000 meters and 3,000 meters. Participants may register at www.sublimityharvestfest.com; registration is $10, kids 12 and under are free. Each participant will receive a free Sunday pass to the Sublimity Harvest Festival. Proceeds from this run will benefit the Sublimity Grade School Parent Teacher Club. The parade begins just after the Road Run and Walk, at 11 a.m. starting at the Sublimity Grade School. The parade includes all kinds of floats and vehicles including farm machinery, cars, trucks, families and kids, pets and other animals. The entry fee is $10; registration is available at www.sublimityharvestfest.com/ On Family Day, Sunday, Sept. 9 the Festival will feature it’s second ever “Cause Day,” with non-profit booths providing information and activities related to various causes. Throughout the entire Festival weekend, the average attendance is 20,000. The event features tractor, truck, ATV and horse pulling competitions; monster trucks; a fun run; parade; entertainment tent; Kid Zone; live music; pancake breakfast; and commercial and food vendors. Monster truck sponsors include Allied Rock, AWI Diesel Truck Repair, McCoy Freightliner and Siegmund Excavation. Event Day sponsors include Les Schwab, Peterson CAT and Superior Tire Company. The Festival is held on the Harvest Festival Grounds at 11880 Sublimity Rd SE in Sublimity.
