Salem Bakes Again Monday, Relief is on The Way

(SALEM) - Salem hit 101 degrees Monday, just missing the record high of 102 degrees set back in 1928.

If you were one of the unfortunate ones searching for an air conditioner to beat the heat Monday, and over the weekend, the news wasn’t good.

Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Bi-Mart, Fred Meyer and more reported that air conditioners flew off store shelves Friday, and most were totally out of air conditioners and fans by Sunday.

Ice cream shops such as Baskin Robbins and Cold Stone Creamery reported near record sales this weekend.

Other popular items this weekend that stores were having a hard time keeping on the shelves were bottled water, sun screen, beer, ice, pop, juice, pools, and of course ice cream.

Salem Air Fair and Festival organizers say attendance was down about 10 percent during the three-day event this year because of the heat.

The National Weather Service says a cooling trend is in store for the Salem-area throughout the rest of the week.

Tuesday night: Clear in the evening...then partly cloudy. Lows around 55. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy in the morning...then mostly sunny. Highs 85 to 90. Light wind becoming northwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear. Lows 55 to 60. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Gusts to 20 mph in the evening.

Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs around 90.

Thursday night: Mostly clear. Lows around 55.

Friday: Mostly sunny. Highs 80 to 85
