Salem, Willamette Valley Gas Prices Continue to Fall

The top five most expensive states are Hawaii, Alaska, California, Washington and Oregon.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Oregon is one of 42 states and Washington D.C. where gas prices have fallen in the last month.

In Salem over the past week, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline fell 3 cents to $3.91.

In Portland-Vancouver, the price fell one penny to $3.94, in Eugene the price fell 5 cents to $3.93, while in Medford-Ashland the price dropped 3 cents to $3.96 a gallon.

Pacific states continue to lead the market with the highest prices per gallon. The top five most expensive states are Hawaii, Alaska, California, Washington and Oregon.

Oregon is one of 10 states where pump prices are still higher than they were a year ago, when Oregonians were paying an average of $3.89 to fill up.

This week there are three states with regular unleaded at or above $4 a gallon, same as last week: Hawaii, Alaska and California. For the 26th week in a row, there are no states with an average below $3 per gallon, and no states within a dime of this mark for the 22nd week in a row.

Hawaii has the most expensive gas in the country for the 91st consecutive week at $4.34, followed by Alaska at $4.15, California at $4.04 (down a nickel and third for the fourth week in a row), Washington at $3.95 (down three cents and fourth most expensive for the seventh consecutive week), and Oregon at $3.94 (down three cents and fifth for the fourth week in a row).

Idaho is 10th for the second consecutive week at $3.76 (down a penny). South Carolina has the cheapest gas in the country for the fifth week in a row at $3.30 a gallon (down four cents).

Diesel prices are edging down in most markets.

The national average slips two cents to $3.86 a gallon this week. Oregon’s average loses two cents to $3.95. Diesel is at or above $4 a gallon in 10 states (including the District of Columbia), down from 12 last week.

Hawaii is most expensive at $4.88, followed by Connecticut at $4.29, Alaska at $4.25, New York at $4.24, and California at $4.13 (down two cents). Washington is seventh for the fifth week in a row at $4.03 (down two cents).

Idaho is 14th down from 13th at $3.96 (down two cents). Oregon is 16th for the second consecutive week. A year ago, the national average for diesel was $3.88 and Oregon's was $3.93.
