Western Oregon's Akins Gets Pre-Season Selection

Western Oregon's 2014 schedule features 11 games, with four being played at McArthur Field in Monmouth.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - Western Oregon University football student-athlete, Kraig Akins, was tabbed third team All-American by the Beyond Sports Network website. Akins was named to the defensive line. He was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2013.

He finished the season as the conference leader in tackles for loss (16) and tied for the lead in forced fumbles with four. The junior also ranked second in sacks (8) and seventh in tackles (70). He was the Wolves' lone unanimous first team All-GNAC selection last season. The 2014 Preseason All-America Football Team was chosen based on returning All-Americans from the 2013 BSN All-America Football Team, highest vote recipients in the 2013 BSN All-American Voting, statistics, and game evaluations.

The 2013 BSN All-American team was selected based on votes by college sports information directors and college coaches. Every school was given the opportunity to have two votes.

Western Oregon's 2014 schedule features 11 games, with four being played at McArthur Field in Monmouth.

WOU welcomes Central Washington on Sept. 20 in the home opener.

The Wolves host Simon Fraser during homecoming weekend on Oct. 25. Western Oregon faces Dixie State on Oct. 11 in Monmouth.

It closes the home slate on Nov. 8, against Humboldt State on Senior Day. All four home games are slated for 1 p.m. kickoffs.
