(SALEM, Ore.) - On July 5th, in honor of The Grateful Dead’s 50th Anniversary and final show, Playing For Change released a brand new Song Around The World covering The Grateful Dead’s 1970 classic, “Ripple.” The song features an eclectic cadre of legendary artists, and new and veteran Playing For Change musicians. "Our friends at JamBase asked us to turn the Grateful Dead's 1970 classic, "Ripple" into a PFC Song Around the world as part of their "Songs Of Their Own" series and after many miles on planes, trains and automobiles we can finally share it with all of you!" the group shared on facebook. "Ripple" was released as the final video of 50 Grateful Dead tribute videos on JamBase’s "Songs Of Their Own" series. Grateful Dead drummer, Bill Kreutzmann says, "This is a gift from the fans." "The ‘ripple effect’ is that the next generation gets to learn to play music all over the world," says Playing For Change co-founder, Mark Johnson. The all new Song Around The World is in honor of the Grateful Dead's 50th anniversary. Playing For Change hopes that people around the world will watch the video and then turn that inspiration we all share into something bigger. All are encouraged to join the "Ripple Effect" campaign so we can all leave the world better than we found it, one heart and one song at a time. As Jerry Garcia said, "Let there be songs to fill the air..." "My mom, Manasha Garcia, and I established The Jerry Garcia Foundation to support organizations whose work resonates with my father’s core values and what he loved, such as music, art and the environment. We are honored to be partnering with the Playing For Change Foundation to help bring music to children around the world. It’s such a worthy cause. "I believe that my dad would be very moved by the work that they’ve done thus far. As soon as we saw the video we knew that we wanted to be involved in some way. I believe if my father were alive today, he would love to be playing on the “Ripple” track," said Keelin Garcia, the Jerry Garcia Foundation. Anyone can participate in this online campaign by sharing a photo or video of an act of kindness that benefits others or helps the environment and adding the hashtag #PFCF and #RippleEffect to the post. You may also video yourself or a friend as you jump into water or create other examples of an actual ripple through photos, video or original art. Then tag 3 friends in the post and challenge them to make their own #PFCF #RippleEffect, and tag 3 of their friends and keep the ripple going! Net proceeds from Ripple, and associated merchandise and sponsorship opportunities, will benefit the Playing For Change Foundation’s music schools and programs for children worldwide. "Ripple" is in support of the Playing For Change Foundation's music schools and programs for children worldwide.
