Salem-News.com

(ALBANY) - A teenage boy was shot and killed Saturday morning in Albany by residents who believed he had been breaking into their house.

Albany police say 16-year-old Jeremiah Daniel O`Sullivan died of a gunshot wound to the chest at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

Capt. Eric Carter of the Albany Police Department says at about 2:30 AM police received a call from a resident at 2726 27th Ave. S.E. who said her home had been broken into and her purse, car keys and 2001 Buick Century had been stolen.

Around 3:00 AM, police say they found a car matching the description at 2496 22nd Ave. S.E.

A male who had been standing beside the car ran for the back yard of the home. Moments later, Carter said, police heard a shot.

O`Sullivan was found in the yard of the home next door.

The homeowners` names have not been released. They were not injured in the incident

Carter says investigators believe O`Sullivan was not acting alone.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the department at (541) 917-7680
