Jan-28-2014 14:23TweetFollow @OregonNews Anonymous - #Operation Safe Winter in Salem (VIDEO)Salem-News.comWhat #OPSAFEWINTER hopes to accomplish is a more forgiving system for the most challenged around the world who do not have any place to go.
(SALEM) - Last Sunday in Salem, a group of people from many different backgrounds joined together in solidarity with other communities in what is called "OPPSAFEWINTER". "OPPSAFEWINTER" is an idea supported by people who want to help others in need, as well as supporters of the Global Community known as Anonymous.
The group that participated in Salem OPSAFEWINTER consisted of about fifteen people, both adults and children, who pooled up resources through donations and converged in Marion Square Park in Downtown Salem. They provided warm nutritious food {over 100 burritos} and winter clothing and supplies that were given out in what was called "OPSAFEWINTER FREE STORE". Many agree that the houseless population in our city and across our country is being neglected. There are very few resources to help keep the houseless community warm, dry and healthy. Without these necessary resources, many of the people on the streets are fighting a daily up-hill battle to survive. It is believed, that through direct action and personal accountability, hope can be given. "We believe we can make people who are struggling feel better through our actions. We believe we can help give hope to those who are struggling through our actions," the group said in a news release. It is believed through direct action and personal accountability, some of the burden and pain can be relieved through the gift of donations and charity and outlets for the homeless to speak their mind and feel love from members of their community. A shared view is that many homeless people all around the world do not want to be homeless and are victims of a system that often forgets and criminalizes the people forced into the lowest tiers of poverty. Many of the people witnessed on the streets of Salem are fighting a daily battle just to survive and eat due to various disabilities and hardships that severely affect a person's abilities to work and care for themselves. This is often mistaken for people who do not want to work for a home to live in. One of the people helping is the Organizer of the Salem March against Monsanto scheduled for May 24th 2014. Kimberly was asked why she was involved with Sunday's action in the park. She said, "Its the right thing to do,they are people just like you and I. What would be a good reason to not help the homeless? None, I cannot think of..." On this day, at least 35 people in need were able to look through the donations and pick and choose what items of clothing, hygiene supplies, canned goods, water, blankets, sleeping bags, food and tents best met their needs. One homeless woman who had children with her on this day, was extremely thankful for getting a new tent and was able to replace the one she had, which had been chewed on and torn apart by wild animals. What #OPSAFEWINTER hopes to accomplish is a more forgiving system for the most challenged around the world who do not have any place to go, it is sad that while millions of homes across the country are sitting empty due to illegal foreclosures, huge corporations make billions of dollars and only pay very small amounts of taxes. Veterans of our armed forces and many of our disabled are forced into the roughest form of survival. A better world is possible and through getting to know people in our community and spending time with each other, we can surely fix this grave injustice of houselessness.

I'm so proud of people standing up to help others. Some here doing this I have none for years and seeing this makes me hopeful for this world.
