Predatory Sex Offender Awaiting Trial Found Dead in Jail Cell

Billings suffered from several medical conditions including a heart condition and had a pacemaker.

(ALBANY) - Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports on Sunday, Corrections Deputies in the Linn County Jail found 58-year-old Robert Allen Billings of Sweet Home, dead in his cell.

Albany Emergency Medical Services responded to the Jail at 6:35 AM, however Billings was deceased.

Billings was alone in his cell at the time of his death and died of apparent natural causes.

An autopsy was performed Sunday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Clackamas.

The cause of death was determined to be Coronary Failure.

Billings was arrested by Linn County Sheriff’s Detectives on January 11th, on four counts of Sex Abuse I and was awaiting trial while the investigation continued.

Linn County detectives began this investigation when the victim, a 7-year-old female child, was brought to the Sheriff’s Office by the victim’s family.

Billings was registered with the Oregon State Police as a predatory sex offender.

According to his sex offender registry, he had two previous convictions for Sex Abuse I.

He is survived by a sister in Sweet Home and two children living in the state of Washington.

The body was taken to Aasum-Dufour Funeral Home who is handling arrangements.
