(LAHORE, Pakistan) - Today, Mr. Shamoun Patras, along with some other Christians of Phool Nagar, came to LEAD's office and told the Chief of LEAD, Mr. Sardar Mushtaq Gill, about incidents that have happened involving Patras, his family, and other Christians of the area. Mr. Patras works as a stitch operator in a Factory, on Eid-Ul-Muladul Nabi. He was at home with his family when a group of Muslim men, who are reportedly drug sellers, passed in front of his door at around 5:30 p.m. He says they opened fire on his house and when he came out to see what happened, they also fired at him, and he was forced to run away from the site to save his life. Mr. Patras says this same type of incident has been reported by other Christians. Some Christians thought that they should tell the other respectable Muslims and their parents so that they would put a stop to such dangerous activities. Mr. Patras, along with some other Christians, went to some respectable Muslims, and reports that the attackers from the earlier shooting, again opened fire at all of them and then forced them to stand in a row. They also issued a threat toward anyone who might consider taking against them in the police station, they said they will kill him, Patras said. He says they also threatened him by saying "you are Christians insects and have no power to do anything against us", and "you are slaves and trivial and tiny before us", and "we will burn your houses and church", Mr. Patras said. Other Christians report living under threats and pressure from such drug sellers. They also say that they always remain under pressure and fear over how their honor and belongings would be saved from such dangerous persons. "There were already many criminal cases against them and they did not care about such cases, and what will be benefit if I will submit an application in Police station against them", said Mr. Patras. He also added that he was worried about his new generation. Some Christians say that similar offences often happen to them and they had no way to know how to avoid such things. They also relate that they were not safe in Pakistan and their honor and belongings were also not safe. Sardar Mushtaq Gill, advocate and Chief of LEAD, strongly condemns such persons and their dangerous activities which are the cause of this feeling of insecurity in Pakistani Christians. He demands from the Government that it should take some strong steps to eliminate such elements from society. LEAD is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with Children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. As followers of Jesus,we are motivated by God's grace and love to serve all people regardless of race, religion gender or ethnicity.
