(SALEM) - Linda Young describes herself as a proud daughter of a wonderful man, Carl Dealis Beam of Carthage, Texas, who served his country twice in his lifetime, both in World War Two and Korean War. Mr. Beam's military record is documented in the following two documents, one of which is from U.S. President Barack Obama: Letter from U.S. Congressman from Texas, Louie Gohmert Letter from U.S. President Barack Obama In his book, The Greatest Generation, Tom Brokaw reminded us of the massive sacrifice Americans took on in the 1940's. He brought to life the stories of a whole generation of people who fought on behalf of their country in unison, to preserve a way of life many people in the world knew little about. The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, states that, "Approximately every two minutes a memory of World War II – its sights and sounds, its terrors and triumphs – disappears. Yielding to the inalterable process of aging, the men and women who fought and won the great conflict are now in their 80s and 90s. They are dying quickly – at the rate of approximately 550 a day, according to recent US Veterans Administration figures." Linda Cash reflects on these figures, and wonders why her father, one of the few, is receiving such little help and she questions why officials would allow this to happen. She says the pride she feels in her father makes the treatment he is receiving all the more difficult. In fact she says she is, "...also ashamed of the way his government and his country has repaid him for that service." "I don't know why I have to fight so hard for him to be treated with respect and what I feel he should be entitled to. I had to put my dad in a nursing home in February of 2013 and it has been a nightmare!" Salem-News.com has two WWII Veterans who writers: Dr. Phillip Leveque and Edsel Chromie. Both are amazing people, healthy and sharp, it proves that there is no justifiable reason to turn our back on the continuing contributions of these war heroes. Carl Dealis Beam of Carthage, Texas, deserves better. Linda says her dad's challenges are not helped by the fact that he only received a 6th grade education. "Some years ago someone told him to not file for Social Security, because he would lose his VA benefits. So I had to file for his Social Security. It took the VA from February, to August, 2013, to adjust his income to the 90.00 dollars the VA lets him keep." She says during the length of time it took the VA to make the adjustment to his income, she and her dad incurred thousands of dollars in medical bills and Nursing home bills that had to be paid out of pocket. Linda is also not working due to disabilities, leaving them in quite a spot. She says her dad has always been proud and would never ask for help. She made these points... I feel like he should have all this paid! I feel that he is not asking for anything! I feel he is due this at the very least! I personally find it tragic that any American family, anywhere, would be hard pressed to pay their basic bills to cover essential needs.
